"Miracle" Graduation?

My ASS!!!! :redhot

Sorry, bear with me.

Okay, so I already knew that TWO ex-presidents were showing up at Tulane's graduation. Everyone did. Especially considering the speaker at OUR graduation next Friday (the head of HUD) backed out at the last minute so we have a professor from Houston coming in instead (no one else could make it, but I think we should have stuck a puppy out in the middle of the canal then kidnapped Anderson Cooper when he showed up for the rescue shot.)

So now it's all over the news EVERYWHERE and just as a final kick in the pants, Ellen Degeneres made a surprise visit.

It's not just the celebrity that bothers me (...okay, maybe a little...) It's the fact that the media is completely ignoring the fact that if there IS a real "miracle" here, its' the fact that LOYOLA got up and running with over 92% of its student body and only had to fire FIFTEEN people, whereas Tulane had to shut down most of their accessory schools (I think their law school is the only one open right now) and they had to fire the majority of the faculty associated with those schools.

Tulane and Loyola are next door to each other. Literally. They are ten feet apart at the most. Tulane did not have more damage, Loyola just had better planning. And Tulane gets the press because of a football team and a fund-raising drive.

So...yeah...don't know where I was going with this. I'm just a teensy bit angry at all the back patting going on.

Oh well....at least the Katrina Bar class at Loyola had a 90% passage rate. Tulane's was 30% :P

I hear ya. Our building people can't manage to get the baseboards glued back on from the flood we had in January; they're cutting academic programs and threatening static everything for next year (told ya the only reason I went up for promotion was that it was my only chance to get a raise this decade) ... but we can hire a new BASKETBALL COACH for $100K/yr.

Guess we know where the priorities are, don't we?

Well I think you and everyone you're graduating with deserve a HUGE, and I do mean HUGE, round of applause! :hello Just having enough intestinal fortitude to go back after all that happened to you, and to stick with it through what I know from personal experience is one of the most rugged, demanding, and competitive of academic programs (even at little old U. of Maine it was eat or be eaten) IN SPITE OF everything around you is just... Huge.

Congrats to you and your entire class. Anyone with a bit of working gray matter can look at those facts and say Wow. That is an incredible feat!

Congrats on the graduation! Since you're becoming a lawyer, have you
already had your souldectomy or does that happen afterwards? :D

I know what you mean about Loyola. My younger sister also graduated from
there and I've always heard stories from her about how lopsided the
treatment of the two schools is. According to her, even some of the teachers
are the same with them treating classes at both schools.

At least you got a good education at a better price than if you went to Tulane,
meaning that you have less debts to pay off. Besides, we both know that if
celebrities showed up, you'd just end up being hauled away for mooning
them anyways. So, you're better off this way! :moon

Congratulations my dear, you deserve it! You're one tough cookie. I sure wouldn't want to cross paths with you in a courtroom 8O unless you're the one defending me when I'm caught breaking into houses and "borrowing" everyone's cel collection :D

Plus, it's your birthday! Wow, you have so much going on, I hope all that celebrating doesn't wear you out (lol, like it did me recently :hurt: , but I'm getting old and I can only go down hill from here X|

He he, I didn't mean for this to be a "yay I'm graduating thread" :emb Although I am VERY relieved (and scared sh*tless) to be getting out of there. :D

I'm just SO ANNOYED by Tulane's little celeb-party thing. I know it's probably unreasonable :rollin Like Kymaera said, Loyola really does give a better education. There's a saying (and I've heard people who didn't go to either school say it) "Tulane grads become lawyers, Loyola grads become judges." I'm just irritated because the pervading notion being given by the press is 1) There is only one university in New Orleans (no, there are five but only two are open.) 2) Tulane did something awesome (no, they're actually in second place for hurricane preparedness) and 3) Everything's okay as long as they can fund their 3.2 million dollar football program (but they shut down the med school!!!)

So....blah....I bite my thumb at them or something. :rollin

I will certainly defend you Kujaku but you have to pay me in cels :P

Kymaera, the souldectomy was so gradual I didn't even notice it was missing :rollin

I am so glad you find this amusing, however going to refrain. What did you mean?
