Cel collecting...

Post by ljupco »

I was just curious what has got you into cel collection, would you ever stop and what anime did you first start collecting? For it was one day on ebay when I spotted a cel of dragonball and I just had to have it and from then on I have not stopped.

Tenchi started me, I got a dramatic cel of Tenchi's grandfather and one of Tenchi that day from the little comicbook shop in Sacramento.

I really liked the idea of actually owning a piece of the anime that I wqas watching. You can't do that with regular movies so I thought it was cool 8)

I found my first cel on eBay. Featuring Daisaku and Robo from Giant Robo.

I foolishly thought I could live with just one. No plans to quit anytime soon.

What I like about her collection is that for every cel she has long detailed descriptions.

A lot of people like that. I don't know if I like about her collection is that for every cel she has long detailed descriptions. I like to talk about movies and music.

My first cel was from Mahoujin Guru Guru. I guess it started when I was trying to find more information and goodies on the series as I watched the fansubs of it then this cute cel popped up on eBay. After purchasing it I really didn't buy anymore cels for a while but about half a year later I found Anime-Beta and Rubberslug while searching for more info on MGG. After reading about collecting from others I then became hooked.

I signed up with Rubberslug but never opened a gallery until several months later when I had a small collection of cels built up. I've never stopped since. :) And I don't think I ever will. I used to buy cels left and right but now I've learned not to jump on every cute cel that comes along so I'll have even more money to use on nicer cels and wishlist cels.

I used to collect cels when I was in Japan but I do not think it counts :P (b/c I had no idea what I was doing anyway :P)

The reason why I started was RK (obviously ;) ). I saw one day a Kenshin site and I saw Kenshin and Kaoru kissing cel and I just had to have it! And then I got my first cel

After this I kept telling my hubby that is the last cel but I kept lying to him :P :P Oh well....

I browsed a lot of online anime stores and seen the cels they were selling. I took note of this because I had an interest in comic book art and American animation cels since the early 1990's. I couldn't find places that sold comic book art back then and I never bought any American animation cels because my interest in American shows didn't measure up to the prices they were selling for.

But anime cels...that's a different story:

I'll stop when the sketches I want to get run out. The cels I want are already running out now. :(

My first cel was a Ryoko/Tenchi cel from Tenchi Muyo. But the first anime SERIES I collected from was Video Girl Ai from February 1998 to February 2000. Geez...did I only collect VGAi for only TWO years? 8O It seems longer than that. Time flies when you're spending money.

I had just finished watching Fushigi Yugi and was looking through ebay by searching "Tamahome" and ran into this cel:

Cloud; no drinking and posting! :rollin

anywho! My friend got me interested in cel collecting because, well...I was going through a jealousy phase at the time :emb So, I had to start my own collection. I tried to get DBZ cels first, but had even less income than now. And that was how I started collecting Dragon Knight cels, soon I wanted to add to that and finally got a DBZ cel. Until last year, I wasn't a major collector but then I watched Saiyuki: Requiem again and decided I wanted some of that production work.

And; as they say; the rest is history! :)
...still need more DragonBall cels though...
