We celebrate it in a strange way (Kay, strange? how unusual!). My dad, being the perverse sort that he is, has always made it a joke to ask whether we had noticed how short the days were getting (because yes, they do start the downward turn from here on...). After many years it became a contest to see who could remind the other first. He's been known to call at 6 am on this day to ask me if I'd noticed...
Usually he wins.
Today, though, I handed the phone to EJ (Thing the Elder) and told her to say "Grampie? it's EJ. Have you noticed...?"
Bingo! We win!!
I spoke to him and said "Dad, you have been GOT."
So, in that spirit of complete silliness -- happy solstice!
