Investing in...?

Post by Keropi »

So what are you guys doing with your money besides spending them on cels and sketches? :D Are you investing in a house, car, mutual fund, etc.?

I'm going to be sending money tomorrow to my mutual fund Roth IRA. I have extra money and I haven't contributed any to my IRAs for four or five years now. My Bad! X| :O

I'm also going to take all the money out of my savings account (I'm leaving the money in my checking account) and put it somewhere else. I'm only getting 0.20% interest in my savings account. Banks aren't even pretending to give interest anymore in regular accounts. I might as well put it where I can make more money instead of $5.65 a year after taxes. lol :^^:

Anyone lucky enough to be in an international mutual fund through last year? I'm still skittish on international mutual funds, but I suppose I'll eventually have to invest in one.

I'm investing in my head, i.e. education. :P

I have Roth IRA's that are doing quite nice, as well as the 401K plan my work offers. A couple government bonds, but that's it.

My job offers PERS retirement funds which is growing by the year. I have a few thousand invested in mutual funds, mostly tech stocks and small business ventures. I am looking into get an IRA account set up to compliment my retirement. Also started investing in silver at an early age and have quite a bit put away. At this point, I have enough disposable income to do this so I better do it now.

And as with Elf, I am investing in my education so my pay will increase.

Right now, I'm on step 3, class B. Once I get my masters next Fall, my yearly income will increase by nearly $5K. WooHoo! :pimp

Pay off our debts and trying to buy a house :) :)

I do not want to spend so much $$$ for a car. I have an old Geo which I bought it for $200 about 4 years ago :) :) and it works fine :)
So we are super cheap but we spent so much $$$ for my sister's wedding and now we have a lot of debts to pay off :(

a 2001 Toyota Rav4 with 22K miles on it. *sighs* so beautiful, so great. Gets the same gas milage and stuff my Neon got, which was 22-27 so that makes it really nice too. She cost me, but I'll be able to drive it forever. I have ALWAYS wanted one of these... finally got one. *happy hotice*

I hardly think a car is a good investment, they depreciate as soon as you sit in them.

We are investing in property, mainly rental so someone else can pay the loan off! :P I personally like buying shares. If you roll over the money each quarter you can be surprised at how much you get in a year for doing nothing. I am looking into buying some more at the end of financial year.

College, car, houses.

These are investments for the future. My potential career, for starters, and
shelter. Cars ARE wonderful investments, especially if you take proper
care of them. Shoot, my mom had her Toyota for years! Ran beautifully!
I have a 2002 Volvo S40 and I plan to drive it for a decade or two. I'm
proud of my car and take care of it so it will take care of me.

Everything you purchase depreciates in value, that's the nature of life.
It leans toward chaos and decay. But who cares? Where I live, having a
car is practically a necessity. I don't think having a bunch of cars is very
bright, tho. A car is a smarter purchase than a cel, honestly. What
exactly can you do with a cel? I don't recall ever driving myself to the
hospital with a cel.

Like you, we invest in rental property. Which is a decent investment but
it's a huge time sink and hassle. Renters don't tend to take very good
care of your property (which depreciates it) and finding a decent renter
can be tricky, so someone could in turn tell you that rental property is
"hardly a good investment."

Well rental property is almost a second job if you want to do all the fixing and running after tenants who don't pay.

Maybe you should get your prospective tenants to fill out a Love Survey!

1. Do you love your House?
I love my house!
2. Do you love your Carpet! on a scale of 1-10?
I love my carpet-su! 10!
3. Do you love the Dry wall and try not to put holes and draw on it?

etc.

What is this "invest" thing you speak of? /hmm

Here's the sad truth about being poor to start off with, being obsessive hobbyists who also tend to shift hobbies every so often and incur start-up costs for the new one, and then suddenly decide reproduction would be a good thing. We're investing in two ultra-intelligent small fry, hoping that one day they will be able to support us in the manner to which we would like to become accustomed. :P

Which means the TIAA-CREF retirement funds and a small investment fund we started up maybe 15 years ago are about it. I guess the house is an investment of sorts, but we're so involved in USING it that we aren't exactly increasing its value, yaknow? ;)

A survey I read says that the average child takes around $220,000 to raise until age 18!

But children are the best investment in the world! With enough of your love and wisdom, they'll grow up to be a shining star to guide us into the bright future!

Correct! and, Correct! :D

Mine, of course, are going to grow up to be a pair of wiseasses to guide us into the bright future, but at least they'll be SMART wiseasses :P
