Sex Offenders in your area? Check to see!

Post by Zag »

With so many of our members moving around lately...

I thought this might be interesting.

http://www.familywatchdog.us/

Enter an address (one near you if you have qualms about internet security, although everything is encripted here) and it will show you where convicted sexual offenders in your area live and work. They're indexed by severity of crimes by color, and if you click on a colored dot, a profile including photo pops-up.

Convicted Sex Offenders are required by law to provide this information, and it's your RIGHT to know.

I was pleased to see there isn't a single one living in my community in a 3 mile radius. Yay!

My dad and I did this with another website. We found there's a 6 foot 6 inch 320 pound guy on the list convicted of assault that lives seven or eight houses up the street from us. :sweatdrop

...and he walks past our house every now and then. 8O

People that BIG catch your eye pretty easily when they walk by. :emb

Looks like I have about 25+ offenders in all 4 catagories within a 5 mile radius of my place. :l This is a very conjested area we live in. So sad people have to do things like that to others. It's really creepy how you can click on their locations and see what they look like.

And where we will be moving too? Looks like there is one on the same street that my parents live on!! And about 7 or 8 child sex offenders in my little hometown. Jeez!! :x

Thanks for placing the link Zag. I think everyone with children should definately take a look at it.

Thanks for posting this, Zaggy.

I've done this kind of thing before as well. My old neighborhood was bad
and the new one we moved into recently isn't a whole lot better. But that's
life sometimes. People are scum, hard to escape it.

But at least with websites like these, you can educate yourself and be aware.
Again, thanks for posting this eye-opener.

Holy Schnizzitt!! There are 151 in my new area! 8O 8O 8O

It's sad to see them 0.16 miles from a school.

I found 3 child sex offenders living near me. This is why my daughter isn't allowed to roam about alone. Who says living in the country is safer?

Got nine living within a mile of me, including one in my apartment complex. Never seen him before, but I know his face now. I posted this story on my RS blog, but I'll repost it here for the benefit of others.

7/16/2006
I was doing a search for an anime series on a file sharing program, when I came across a file that sparked my curiosity. I previewed the file, and it turned out to be child porn. I am literally shaking I am so mad and sick. I reported the user to the CyberTipline website, and I really hope they can do something about this. For those who doubt it, I will say that it was obvious the child was no more than 6 or 7 and she was performing a sex act.

This subject is close to me for two reasons.

1. A person I know was molested at a very young age, and I've had to watch this person deal with the aftermath well into their adult years. It truly is something that scars your very soul.

2. As a teacher, I see symptoms of this more than I would care to remember. I am also a teacher in a subject and field that is mostly female. I get fingerprinted and my background is checked constantly. There is a good reason for this: teaching is becoming a haven for predators, both male and female.

I wrote this to get my nerves to calm down and hopefully shed some light on the fact that this is a very real problem on the internet. I would ask people report anything they see as suspicious while roaming the web. The website for missing and exploited children is http://www.cybertipline.com. You report any problems to them and it goes right to the FBI.

I am feeling a little better, but still upset. I wish I could get that out of my head.
Time is but an illusion. Lunch time...doubly so.

Yes, I had read your blog. Isn't the world awful? Why can't everyone have the "play nice" standards we have?

How come we're so cool? Maybe it's the anime. We get our violence in animated form. XD

Speaking of violence, I watched some more Utawareuremono last night. Who knew I'd love a series about fuedal wars?

Okay . . . that's just scary.

I think it's just incredibly sick that the number of child offenders greatly outnumbers the others combined. Did anyone else see that?

The little dots also tend to get more concentrated as you move farther into the "bad" part of town. Apparently, we're just on the edge. :? That doesn't really surprise me, though.

Same here. Thanks for reposting your blog here Brian. That's a terrible thing
to find, but honestly, I'm glad you did find it. You never know who you
might've helped by reporting that file/user.

People are sick creatures sometimes.
