Detroit Edison can EAT ME.

Yep. For the SECOND time in a month, our power has been out. Last time it was 13 hours. This time, they didn't get around to fixing our electricity for 39.5 hours. At least a dozen things in our refridgerator went bad. Our freezer completely defrosted and leaked all over the friggin' place. *sigh*

And let's not even mention the fact that I live outside of the city, so all of our WATER (showers, toilets, sinks) are run by an electric well...

We had a similar problem in Dallas about two summers ago. The power was
out for several days. To beat all, half the neighborhood got their power
back about a day or more before the other half. You could see extension
power cords running across the street from the powered houses to the
blacked out houses. It royally sucked. Sorry to hear about your situation :(

You have my sympathies. In this weather no water and no refrigeration sounds like a nightmare. 8O

We had a similar incident happen to us. My husband's mother and two sisters came to visit from Ireland one winter. The power went out around 10pm on their next to last night with us and didn't return until the morning they were leaving. We rely on well water pumped into the house too. We had no water (except for the snow we could melt to flush the toilet) and no heat for 31 hours. To this day we never speak of it..... :hurt:

Ok, with a title like that, I HAD to look. :P

Ewww. Many Sympathies.

We've had little mini-outages around here for the last few days because
of the heat. Four hours was bad enough!!

"Power companies struggle to keep up with demand!" Well catch a clue,
guys... ever heard of "glowball warming?" (to sneak a Yotsuba reference
in. :) )

But the bad part is the water. Back in...um... maybe 1985? Hurricane
Gloria snuck up through the northeast and, being in a rural place, we
lost power immediately if not sooner. Same deal, no water. We were
lucky enough to live on an old farm with pastureland and a farm pond,
so we could drag water up in buckets to flush with. But... nothing like
having little pond-swimmies in your bathroom. *green*

Obviously you're back in business now. Let's hope the utility companies
will wisen up JUST a wee bit. It's not like the hot summers are going to
go away...

Well, at least around here (Michigan) it's been some very intense summer storms that have kicked our power out. But I imagine that many of the more heavily populated areas of the country are having power problems due to consumption. The power companies really just need to start a better campaign to get people to conserve electricity more often...

8O Oh yeah! What a maroon I am. I saw some of those gigantic cells (had to go back and fix spelling. Sad) on the Weather Channel and though wow, I'm glad I don't live under those clouds....

I positively can't imagine what it would be like without A/C this summer. It's been between 98 and 106 for 2 solid weeks here. And I'm sure Klet could tell us about the incredible temps there -- and that's a BIG place.

Me to Kymaera (10 p.m.-ish) : Well there. It's down to 81 now, I opened the windows. It's supposed to be a lot cooler tomorrow, only mid-90's.

Kymaera: Oh we're going to cool off a lot tomorrow.

Me: Yay!

Kymaera: Yeah, the high should only be about 109.

Me: :jaw

Picture that without air. Lordy, lordy.
