long time, no see

Post by dude_moose »

Hey guys.
I wouldn't be suprized if you didn't remember me, I've been gone/quiet for so long!

I spent 3 of the last 4 weeks roaming around China and yesterday I moved into my dorm for my first year of college at Cornell.

My trip was really awesome (to be blunt :P ). Not only did I get to see many major tourist attractions, such as the Great Wall, Temple of Heaven, the Forbidden City, the Summer Palace, the Terrocatta Warriors, the Great Panda Breeding Center, the great stone Buddha at Leshan, explore the top of Mt. Emei and stay overnight in 2 monestaries, spend 3 nights on the Yangzee and see the new dam, and the amazing limestone karsts of the Gulin region, I was able to experience, in full force, the culture of China. Finding half a duck's head in my food and becoming one with the (in a westerner's view) nightmarish traffic flow, by both foot and bicycle, are experiences I won't be forgetting anytime soon.

So, I wanna know from you...
1. What was your favorite trip of all time and explain why (if you want).
2. Do you have any tips for a college newbie :-D

Sounds like you had a great time that you will never forget.

Good to have you back.

Yeah I remembered you ;)

For your questions,

1,) A trip to Kyoto with my sister when I was in a high school was great! We spent such a little money almost all the trip (we used all public transportations to go anywhere and we walked pretty much everywhere and we bought our food at convenience stores :P) and then at the last day we spent all of the money we had :D :D it was very fun!!!!

2,) My sister and I went to many trips together when we are in a high school. My sister and our friends (so 5 of us) went to climb a mountain and we stayed such an old cabin since we were sooooooooooooooo cheap. But we had such a fun time! My friend brought supposed-to-be horror cheezy mangas but they were soooooooooooooooooo funny. We laughed all summer :D :D

So tip is going to a cheap cabin in a mountain with your friends with some horror mangas :P :P (the cheezier the better :P :P)

1.) I'm not sure I have a "best trip of all time" story...but I think one of my most memorable vacations was the month I spent in Egypt as a child. It's one of those places that is impossible to forget and probably explains why I almost majored in Near Eastern Archaeology in college.

2.) Tips for college: take class seriously. Many colleges don't require that you actually attend every class, but it's a damn good idea. Some folks think they can learn the entire couse by reading the text and then showing up for exams...and it just doesn't work that way.

Also...be sure to study. I know way too many people that got terrible grades in college simply because they spent all their time online or playing video games and never took the time to study. My philosophy: if you're going to pay thousands of dollars a year on your education, make sure you actually get your money's worth.

Also...welcome back! :D :D

Welcome home :D Glad you had such a great experience.

I spent a month and a half on the road in this country an got into 34 states and most of the National Parks and Monuments west of the Mississippi.

My best advise for college is to find new friends that are going to go someplace. A lot of people go to college to coast and party. If you fall in with them the pressure to be like them will be difficult to overcome. Find people in your major, a club, organization or Fraternity that will help you to keep your priorities in order. I would never say that socialization is not a huge part of the college experience, but it is only PART of it You are a great guy and got into a good college, so be sure you get as much out of it as you can

The Doctor : … and then, just to finish off, I’m going to wipe every last stinking Dalek out of the sky !
Dalek : But you have no weapons ! No defenses ! No plan !
The Doctor : Yeah ! And doesn’t that scare you to death ?

Hey thanks guys.

IGWT: You don't even know. I could barely find my way home from my high school the first time I walked home. I rode on a bus to the same place for 5 years at that point...
