I kind of thought it might be from Gegege no Kitaro, but I hardly watched any of it so I couldn't be sure. That's right he was a wall right? I recall him falling on top of things.sensei wrote:The current one I made myself. It's Nurikabe ("Plastered Wall") from Gegege no Kitaro pounding mochi. (Actually a potent magic spell called "Reverse Mochi Kill" that's made by mashing squished eyeballs with rice paste ... details to come in the Mardi Gras Update now in progress.)

In Japan, the creator, Shigure Mizuki, is in many ways better known than Miyazaki, and there are even parks filled with whimsical sculptures devoted to his creations. Sadly, none of his works have been translated to English (what I've seen reminds me of Fungus the Bogeyman, a favorite childhood book of my daughter's.)Keropi wrote:I kind of thought it might be from Gegege no Kitaro, but I hardly watched any of it so I couldn't be sure. Currently there is an active project to fansub the famous 60s version of this anime, which, like Astroboy , was produced in black-and-white. See this blog by the fansubber(includes imbedded windows).
Yes, Nurikabe is a big solid wall and functions as the "muscles" of the youkai team that investigates problems. Kitaro, the leader of the team, is the original one-eyed specialist in the supernatural (well, disregarding Odin and the numerous one-eyed tricksters in Japanese legends and folktales). So without him we'd have no Zelgadis, Ginko (in Mushishi), Watanuke (in xxxHolic) etc. etc.

My avatar is Max Goof from A Goofy Movie. It's from the part where Goofy tells him that they're going on a road trip together.
I'm always searching for production art from this Disney movie, but its really hard to find. I've only ever seen a color model cel (which I own) and a sketch of Roxanne on a collector's website.

Ken Hidaka from Weiss kreuz, of course. My favourite image of him, actually.
The lyrics, however, are from Aya's Image Song "Blue Mask" (one of the best Wk Image Songs surprisingly! ) which I used because it fit the avatar and my handle, and I love the lyrics.
My signature is Ken's one Image Song "yuugao (moonflower)" which I adore and is rather in my own image...

"Like a lonely flower, I wilt a bit. Like a lonely star, I bathe in the evening light. Then with a blank face keep murmuring to someone,
'Ah, I'm not lonely...'"
