Anyone Here from Boston?*snicker*

Post by transmet »

How was your commute yesterday?

Run into any problems?

Any personal stories you want to share?

I'm sorry, but this is a perfect example of the sad state of fear we all live in post-9/11
(esp. thanks to shows like "24"- IMHO, of course).

Oh, it gets better.

These guys are my heroes.

I love how the reporters keep asking them to take this seriously. An entire city's worth of cops expended $1 million to take down ATHF signs because they thought it was a terrorist threat, and they want these guys to take THEM seriously?!

Not gonna happen.... bE-tray keeps pulling the auctions.

Saw that as well yesterday Brian. Yeah, these guys got some brass balls alright. :P

But the best (at least for me) was Colbert's take on the whole thing.

Check it out under "Last Night's Highlights" (2nd one down).

Boston should be thoroughly embarrassed about this. Who wouldn't laugh at this situation? It's either laugh or cry because it's just that absurd.

I'm also surprised by how utterly disconnected these people are from basic pop culture. 8O That's scary.

Hopefully nothing will happen to the two gentlemen hired by Turner Broadcasting to do this promotion because it will set a very dangerous precedent for the future. :hurt:

...okay. Let's keep moving folks. Joke's over... :x :x

Yeah, alright. I live about 25 miles (or so) from Boston. It's incredibly embarassing some lady at a subway station saw one, freaked out and called the cops. It all went downhill from there. She had mistaken the little battery box for the bomb. The sad part is these things- from what I heard- had been up for nearly three weeks. And in 10 other cities.

This doesn't help my pride. It just makes Florida look better everyday.

GAH! Damn my state for being founded by Puritans!! We're like the stick-in-the-muds of America! *hatehatehate* They even outlawed Christmas for TWENTY-ONE YEARS (in the 1600s)!!
And our weather sucks too. :bwall

And.... :saiyan AND!! I CAN'T USE GEICO, PROGRESSIVE OR STATE FARM INSURANCE EVEN IF I WANTED TO! :kaioken

damn lady- can't tell the difference between a light brite and a bomb. In fact, the local paper even ran an article how to tell what a bomb looks like in all it's definitions. (the boom bomb; movie bomb; shoe-bomber)
I wish my brother found one when he went to Boston that night. There were some hidden near his girlfriend's dorm.

I'm embarassed by my state. We are SOOO uncool. -//- :flushie

Um... ok...

I thought it was very possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard ;) but consider that if they had not reacted, and if it HAD been a bomb, the lawsuits would have been filed so fast it would make your head spin.

Doesn't make the entire debacle any less giggle-worthy, but I understand why they did it. All we've heard about for the past six years is how pitiful our preparation for national disasters is.

Still... a lite-brite? :crackup

I'm glad that they didn't use a Slinky. We would have a mass evacuation worse than New Orleans on our hands.

You are required, didn't you hear? :P

I can completely understand you or several people not knowing what that was. But eventually, before thousands of dollars were wasted, someone somewhere could've recognized what it was. I've never seen the show myself but still know what that is. As Okuni said, it was up for a while and in other places, so someone should've been more on the ball with this and not let it get so out of control.

Let's understand each other here -

I don't hold any blame, ridicule nor contempt for the people of Boston. Only their elected officials and emergency units for:
(a.) Not understanding what they were looking at within 15-20 minutes
(b.) After understanding what they were looking at about an hour and half later, immediately alerting the media and traffic officials to the situation.

They let whole affair get way out of hand when they knew there wasn't anything threatening about the devices. And they did it in order to ridicule the perpetrators so that they themselves wouldn't look foolish. Too bad for them that idea backfired. A waste of time, money and resources.

People know when your full of B.S.

I can just imagine what would've happened in TX over this. :rollin

Sorry for offending you, if I did. :friends: I didn't mean Bostonians themselves, but the Boston authorities and officials. Honestly, it could've happened anywhere. Average citizens are not responsible for the way cops and civic leaders respond to such "emergencies." Calling in something suspicious or potentially threatening is a right we all have, but it's what happened afterwards that was the problem. Rather than continuing to make issue of this, they should leave those two men alone.

What the promo company did WAS NOT ILLEGAL, yet the city wants to persue this. Boston needs a clue :x

Oh yeah, definitely. :)

I... um.... avoid Cartoon Network these days because I am soooooo tired of listening to the Imaginary Friends drivel over and over and over... ;)
