I am actually a little teary eyed right now. I haven't felt this bad since Hunter Thompson killed himself. What a great man, and what a loss to the literary world.

Yes another of the greats has left us in body but left behind a great body of work for us to remember him by.
"Like the wind crying endlessly through the universe, Time carries away the names and the deeds of conquerors and commoners alike. And all that we are, all that remains, is in the memories of those who cared we came this way for a brief moment." Harlan Ellison

I remember what started it for me. My seventh grade class read Harrison Bergeron. From that point on, I was hooked.

Sad, soul-crushing news that has left me between that state of melancholy and blind numbness. He was a very unique literary icon who was part Twain, Thompson and Bradbury. I was fortunate enough to have been able to see one of his lectures at the UCLA Hammer Museum a few years back for the release of Bagombo Snuff Box. He was such an eloquent speaker, who captivated everyone's attention. I remember we sat behind Shatner & Nimoy, and later I was able to get my copy of the book signed - such a great day. My God, was that really back in 1999? Wow...

I'm going to go curl up in a ball now. :l
