Newer homes or older homes

Post by Gonzai »

I was talking with Baylor about this yesterday, and it
made me curious as to what others prefer. I made an
offer on a house today, not only because its a beautiful
home, but also because it was built in 1930. I personally
perfer older homes to newer ones. Here is the house I
offered on:

Wish me luck that they accept.

But what about you guys?? Do you prefer an older home
or a newer one, or.......would you rather build your own??
Just curious as to what others like. :o

Such a gorgeous house *_* The wood floors and spacious backyard look awsome. I'm with ya on liking older houses, Gonzai. I was raised in a house that was built in the early 1900's and I loved it. For whatever reason it just felt more like a home than a new house did. Currently living in a "new" home (well it was new 9 years when I moved in :P ) right now but I'd still prefer to live in an older one.

Wishing you oodles of luck with the offer on the house ^_^

That's a nice looking house. Good luck with the offer.

As for the question, the age doesn't matter to me so much as everything else. If I like a place, I like it. I've seen older homes that I liked as well as newer ones, so I guess I'd go with the build-your-own option.
Don't touch me, but I need a hug.

That house is GORGEOUS!! I love the curb appeal it has, and it even looks homey and inviting in winter, when there is snow on the ground. I so hope you get it. *sends lotsa good luck vibes*

As for your question, I'm with Kaije ... the age of the house doesn't matter so much as whether or not I like it, overall. Basically, I wait for a house to say "welcome home" to me when I walk in the door. (Uh, figuratively speaking, of course. :P :D ) If I can walk through the rooms and imagine my "life" there, then I know I've found the right place. :)

That house looks so nice! Good luck on your offer! :)

I have no real preference in the age of the house. Then again, I know nothing about architecture or which style was what decade. :shrug I'm more concerned with how old the appliances/plumbing/etc are more so. I've been looking around to buy, so right now it's *a lot* about price, and how I feel when I see it, but not about age. :l

Thanks guys!! I am totally stoaked, because I am
fairly positive she is going to accept my offer. ^_^
The house has 4 hugebedrooms, which is way more
then I need, but I keep thinking those grandbabies
are going to need lots of room to run around!! ^_^

Personally, I think older homes have a certain charm
to them that you don't get with a newer home. The
house I live in now, is not really new - built in 1958,
however, it still doesn't have the hominess and charm
that pre-WWII homes have (in my opinion).

I will let ya'all know tommorrow if I got it or not. ^_^

best of luck! :)
for the question at hand, i think it would be cool to have a custom built
house. i like the idea of having everything setup exactly the way you
want it ;).

I personally like Older homes as they tend to have big gorgeous trees and a "settled" feeling.

We are on the look out for a home ourselves.

Good luck hun! Its a very sweet looking home!

Older homes, always. New houses have no soul!

Our apartment was built in 1930, and my significant other and I adore it. We'd of course love to get something older, but most truly ancient homes here are considered national monuments, and therefore extremely expensive (starting at ~500k$) so waaaay out of our budget :)

My beau however was lucky enough to grow up in an ancient farmhouse, dating from 1604 according to the city records. You walk in and you can just feel the history. It's a wonderful little cottage. I'm jealous of his upbringing ;)

In any case, even though they may be more costly to maintain, older homes are definatly worth it and the way to go. Preserve history, and good luck with your bid! :)

First I just want to send lots of Good luck vibes on getting that house it looks fantastic! =D

I grew up in a realively newer home, all brick (white, yes there is white brick... dunno why people think i'm lying when i say that.... =\), built somewhere in the 1970's. I grew up in that house, as in my family hasn't moved in over 26years... so to me there place more "home" feeling then there.

However, I have a very warm spot in my heart for older homes.. I love being able to walk into a place and just feel the history there... which is one of the reasons why i fell in love with Eidnburg and the Royal Mile... *sighs* I just love older homes, the history and charm they just naturally have.

You know, a house like that would easily cost about 450,000 euro here in Holland.

That would be around $ 580,000 dollar

no joke

Here's a page with houses for sale in Holland, just to compare: see the insanity

I've always felt like that as well. A newer house just seems to be missing something. So older homes are defintely the way to go for me. Our house was built in 1910 and I love it. It amazes me all the time that it's been around so long. I always wonder what it used to look like and what the city looked like around it as a lot of the major buildings nearby were built after the house. Also, It's got all sorts of weird interesting quirks you wouldn't find in a newer house. :) Though admitdly some of those quirks I could live without, like the weird wiring. But, on the whole I think it's worth it.

the house you're trying for is so goregous! I hope you get it!
