Hooray for Myspace?

Post by eddiefb3 »

I dont know how many people here have a myspace, but thought i'd bring it up.

Myspace seems to be hated by many many parents. I guess i can understand they dont want their kids showing themselves on the internet.

I really dont think its all that bad. As long as you dont put up too much personal information.

Its kind of hard to figure out why its so popular, basically its a customized webpage.

I guess thats good for people who cant make their own. But just about everyone at school has one(college)

I even found out my teachers have one.

I signed up a while ago, mainly because i needed to keep in touch with some guys at school for projects.

So it was pretty neglected for a while.

But recently; day before yesterday. I found out from some people at school. You can actually look up people by their first and last name(it doesnt show their first and last name on their page, just used for search)

So i start thinking, and i get out my old yearbooks(about 8 years old). and start typing in names of people i use to know.

I got results fast. Its amazing to see how people change over years. After long debates against myself i finally decided to send out some messages.

I was really surprised at the responses. They remembered me! Not only that but a few of them go to the same school as me.

Thanks to myspace i might have regained friends i thought i have lost forever. Thank you myspace.

So whats your take on the myspace phenomenon? Is it really evil? or is that just something made up by the overprotective people of america.

P.S.

I go and talk about myspace and i dont even put mine up. How rude of me ;)

Myspace can be a good way for artists and musicians to promote their talent and network. I'm pretty sure myspace can be an unsafe thing in the wrong hands, but I'm not really into the "meeting people in real life" aspect it offers. You're right, a lot of people don't know how to make their own site and simply rely on myspace for that service.

I keep my profile private and my real first and last name are not registered in my account, so no one can look me up without my knowledge. Employers looking at employee myspace pages is a huge invasion of privacy but it happens everyday. Best to cover your tracks and secure your privacy.

I found a long lost friend on Myspace who I hadn't seen in over twelve years. That full name search function certainly comes in handy. ^_^

I mostly use Myspace for blogging though.

I mainly use myspace to keep in contact with my cousins. For some reason, we don't like using regular email to message each other. :P

I use mine to find people sometimes. I use this more than e-mail to communicate with alot of people. Easier for me. I used to use it alot but for the past few months I really dont do much on it except change my profile when I am bored. LOL

Oh yeah, i am like WC. My real name isn't attatched to my myspace. and plus spammers kept adding me so i put a security measure up so that would stop as well. If you want to add me, my last name is Guerra(not my real last name, my mothers). :)

Yeah, i get a lot of that spam too.

How did you stop it?

Other then just turning off the email notices.

I may be on it more now, because of my old friends i recently discovered on there.

I never thought that putting my name could be such a bad thing. never thought of a boss typing in my name at myspace....that could be scary.

I mean, they would know that i collect cels from anime, and play the piano. And that i like mysteries. And whatever else i put up there.

Haha, but wait. I have a secret defense. Mwahahahaha.

See anyone professional knows me as Edwin, but friends and stuff know me as Eddie. And Eddie is what i use for my myspace lookup.

So i'm good....i think..

Besides i think its fine as long as you dont get to personal. Like that guy who wrote a blog on how he hated his job, boss read it, fired.

But as just communication, and for bringing people from your past back can be a good thing!

Or a bad thing depending on who the person is, and if they are a mortal enemey.

Why? I think you mean "it's" or "it is" not "its". That could be quite a while. Do you know any robots who get to personal? I have gotten to personal. Eddie is fine, eddiefb3 ? Thanks for that info.

In my profession, MySpace is a mixed bag. While I enjoy using the page, I must be very carefull what I choose to share. My kids know I have a MySpace account, and I challenge them to find it. It is my way of providing an example of how you can have a MySpace and keep yourself safe in the process. Last year, I asked my kids to take some very simple steps in order to protect their identity. After a week, I did a search and was able to find over 40 accounts with their pictures and personal data listed. I reported them to MySpace and had them deleted (they were under 14) to teach them a lesson about sharing too much info with strangers.
Time is but an illusion. Lunch time...doubly so.

When you're looking for dirt on people, myspace is the way to go.

It's interesting to see where people you knew end up. I went to a private Christian high school with a graduating class of 40 people. Some came out of the closet, and some turned into skanky swingers. All of it is very amusing...

This is my myspace.
http://www.myspace.com/littlemizducky

Both my parents and my two little brothers are the first people on my top friends list. My cousin is there too. It's funny that my family is using MySpace to keep in touch. I never expected my parents to be so "internet savvy".

I've been found by Jr. High friends, HS friends, and someone I haven't seen in 8 years.

I like that you can add bands to your friends list and get their bulletins. That way I can get the news if they have a new album out, or add stops to their latest tour.

I also like that you can put videos up. I added a few Anime Music Videos that I really like to my section.

I've never blogged much, but I do occasionally like to leave a few random thoughts for people to see.

If you want to add me, please send me a message while you're at it so that I know who is trying to add me, or else I'll just automatically deny the request.
