I passed
Just got my final grades for the semester, and I passed my culminating experience. I now have a masters degree in education. I am so relieved.
The culminating experience is a choice of either a teaching portfolio or a unit study. My advisor and I chose to do a unit study. The study had to be 20-25 pages long (mine was 23), and was essentialy an analysis of one of my teaching units (about 14 days of teaching). I had to reference at least 15 scholarly journals or books (I managed to get a hold of 21 sources). The title was "The Role of Multicultural Literacy in Planning a Curriculum Unit." My advisor said I did a wonderful job (she is someone I really respect, so that meant a great deal to me).
If it sounds like I am crowing a bit, my apologies. I never thought I would get this far. It took me 7 years to do this, and now it's over. I am over the moon right now. This year, I will take the year off from classes while I teach. Next year, I am going for my national board certification(a year long process). With that, I will be able to teach anywhere in the United States.

HotIce - Thanks so much.
Ducky - It is hard work, no doubt. I know you'll feel the same way when it's all said and done.
Sensei - Thank you. I teach middle school right now, so my job security is very good. In fact, I start work again in three weeks! I am simply taking the year off from school. I've been taking classes of some sort now for the past 26 years, and I need a break. I plan to leave the district the year after next, which is why I am going after national board cert. A good thing about this degree is that my pay goes up $6500 a year.
Joe - Much appreciated. Thank you.

The Three Laws of Robotics:
1. A robot may not injure a human being, or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
2. A robot must obey the orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.

This is the very sad fact... Which is why so many companies are outsourcing and others paying foreigners to come to the states to work... Awesome news though blue, now you need to take a nice year off and relax and perhaps... hit up the Ph.D next year?ReiTheJelly wrote: Only about 5% of people in the US have Master's degrees, so it is impressive.
