Hi there,
Out of curiosity, does anyone know any good free webhosting sites? While I love the ease of Rubberslug, once I get my gallery fully updated and rescan everything that I wind up keeping I would like to be able to design my own website again and have the freedom to have more than just cels up. I'd prefer that it not have banners, but it definately must not have popup type banners - my personal biggest pet peeve. I wouldn't be doing anything fancy, just very basic html.
Thanks!
Sheri

Yeah where do people often go to get Webhosting these days?
Tripod has been having serious issues since August 1st. I wonder if they are going bankrupt or something because several features are on "fail" status or are barely working properly.
I keep thinking that things will get fixed, but it's still malfunctioning after four weeks. One day I'll try to access my website and everything will be all gone. lol

Well, I learned a long time ago if I wanted
a page that worked, with space for all my stuff
and access to FTP and other useful stuff, I was gonna have to pay.
I go through www.godaddy.com
It's really not as expensive as you'd think. I pay $50 a year.
for 5,000 MB of space, and bandwidth allotment of 250,000 MB,
5 email addresses FTP access SQL and a whole lot of other stuff
I don't use, but is nice to know it's there.
The fee includes my domain name registration for one year.
Part of the $50 is for a private registration service. This service
routes any "whois" enquireies to a company called "Domains by Proxy"
Which means, my name, address, phone number, etc are not listed in a "whois" search on .. say.. www.register.com
Otherwise, all that info would be viewable by anyone who bothered to
do the search.
No adds, unless I put them there myself. If there's a problem, I can
call and get it fixed, rather than just go "Aww, man!" and wait.
And I OWN ANYTHING POSTED.
Many "free" site providers, if you read the terms of service reserve the
right to use anything.. ANYTHING.. you put on your page for whatever they want. They can take a picture of your kids, and slap it in one of their adds. They have rights to any original artwork you post, and can sell it on t-shirts or whatever. IT STINKS, and it's almost ALWAYS standard TOS for these type of pages.
Anyway, It's not much more of a cost per year than one nice cel with background. Even if all you use it for is a file dump, it's worth it.
And it's really really easy to make your own pages. There are tons of
walkthoughs on the net that can help you set up what you want, without
having to deal with adds, goofy rules, and unexpected downtime.
I encourage ya to think about it.

I agree with having your own domain. There are too many restrictions on free servers and too many advertisements. I like having control of my content.
I've been using ipower for the past couple of years http://www.ipower.com/ and I've been pretty happy with it. I've only ever had a couple of problems, and they were resolved pretty quickly through phone support. The prices are really reasonable for what you get.

I use www.freewebs.com for my sale page. Although it doesn't have pop-ups, there are sometimes advertisement banners spewed on the tops of the pages you make. It doesn't so much annoy me, but it might to some. But it's really easy to use and free! You only pay if you want to make it a .com, .org, .biz domain. Plus, they've just upgraded their site, so it's way user-friendly. My friend also uses Freewebs and has had no problems.

a bit more expensive than godaddy at $6.95 a month but at 300 gig of space and 3000 gig transfer and lots of other features, i was hooked. i wanted lots and lots of memory space cause i use my site for lots of other things than just the cel gallery
