Is there life outside cels?... What?? O.o

Post by Caroline »

just i thought i would start a new post!

i have been a member of beta for a year now (maybe a little more) and realize that i dont know much about anyone's life outside of collecting~ (is there such a thing!?)... :D

so, if you care to share, what do you other than collect cels? are you an artist? do you have a job relating to your interests or is anime just a hobby?

i myself am currently living in LA and working in animation~ i'm at neopets (http://www.neopets.com) right now, and have worked on projects for other studios like nickelodeon, as well as my own animation ideas... its always a learning experience and i love it so far. animation is definitely my life, both in-and-out of collecting. anyone else?

Life on the outside... :puzzled

Hummm... well my husband and me are self-employed in Paintless Dent Repair. We will have been married for twelve years this coming December. Thankfully we have no kids of our own (no offense to any parents) but do have a nephew I love dearly and niece who I have yet to meet (she will be two weeks soon).

The most recent non cel/anime hobby is the sport bike my husband recently surprised me with, it has been a terrifying but enjoyable experience. Let's see... love the Detroit Redwings, Video Games and Mountain/Trail Biking. I am addicted to Skittles and Sugarfree Redbull, God save the world if they were to ever disappear. Corny laffy taffy jokes will get me to laugh most every time (I mean wow they are just so bad they're good). Hate yard work, yet bought a home just for the huge yard (four city lots)... yeah I hate neighbors that much, comes from living in apartments for too many years, lol. :emb

Anywho, that's just a bit of me from the outside life. :sweatdrop

I am a director for my local anime convention.
I spend as much time with my best friend as possible (which isn't much due to conflicting schedules). We watch anime when ever we get together.

I work, I go home, and I check my email and boards while listening to the TV behind me. On weekends I might decide to watch one of the shows that I never got around to, in which case I marathon it.

I have no pets, no boyfriend/husband, and no kids. I'm very thankful for the peace and quiet in my house.

My job is sorta like your typical networking job. I make sure that individual computers have a connection to the rest of the world (basically).

Not terribly exciting, but I like it. :)

Lets see.. Before getting into anime I would play chess non-stop. I am also avid skier (looking forward to this winter season). Other sports I play on a random bases are soccer & basketball. I am somewhat a video game junkie (specifically games produced by Blizzard except for the game "WoW"). I am soon to be the president of the chess club at my college (if i can jump through all the hoops in creating one without losing motivation). I am a full time student. I have two dogs, One is a great dane (female, 3 years old) and a Siberian Husky (male, 1 year old, b-day was actually last month). I also have an aquatic frog that i have been caring for the past 12 years. Final statement... Coldstone icecream rocks.

There is life outside cel collecting, but life outside anything anime related? I don't think so.. not for me. hehehe.

I work full time but I work nights in retail. I work so I can support my addiction.. but I'm not allowed to buy anything anymore. I need to put my money towards the house my gf bought for us and save it for visiting her and also I need to start putting some aside if I manage to get an apprenticeship in college next year to learn a trade... but sometimes I can't help but purchase the odd must have, not that I tell my gf coz she might get upset. :os

Let's see, I work four nights a week, those days are spent sleeping, hoping to talk to my gf a little before work and squeezing anime in between.
My three days off, sleeping, four-five hours of thorough cage cleaning for my five rattykins who have the three days to run riot while I check mail, surf the net, talk to my better half and of course watch anime.

I have a dog (a beagle) and a cat (long haired tabby, non-pedigree). I live with my parents and my older brother. Other than anime and cels my interests are animals (of course,), film (animation and live action mainstream and world, and I do check out indie and art films also), music (loving Mandopop right now), animation, reading, people... I think that's it.

I don't have a social life anymore. If ever I'm feeling a little down I just sit in bed and watch dvds, usually something inspiring and hopeful, like a Ghibli film, or something like Garden State. ^_^

Is it bad that I don't really have the desire to go out and see people?

I work in a special effects studio as a concept artist and painter. Other than that, I run a internet t-shirt business from home and travel a lot in my spare time.
For pets, I have two dogs, a cat, a snake, a tarantula and some cichlids.
As far as anime, really, I don't like much of it. The few I do like, I absolutely love, but anime isn't a big part of my life.
For other things to collect, I love posters, comic books, action figures and bones.

Hehe, that's all I guess :P

I'm a freelance photographer and graphic designer, my main employer being a local (but large) photo studio. I make posters for seniors, newspaper ads, etc... as well as going out to photograph kids from kindergarten to seniors at schools; including school photos, graduations, dances and sports.

I also work for Borders (the bookstore) cause I love books and my discount. :) (maaannngaaa....) and I just love being around people, so retail doesn't bother me.

I love my video games, most prominently Rockman/Megaman and the "Tales of" series by Namco. I'm a rpg addict, so I'll pretty much play anything I can get my hands on. I'm huge into cosplay, both constructing/wearing costumes as well as photographing others. I often due photoshoots for local cosplayers when I can.

I have a boyfriend of 10 years and going strong. :) (We started dating very young) He's just as into anime and video games as I am. Our tastes differ a little, but it helps broaden our scope I think.

Not much else to say. ^^; I've been a cel collector for as many years as I can remember (I started in the 90s) and though I've slowed down a lot since then, until every last FY cel is spoken for by someone or other, I probably won't quit. ;)

:emb :emb

Just got married to a fellow betarian about 2 1/2 months ago
and totally enjoying my newly appointed title "wife" :D
Course it doesn't help finances much when theres 2 of us
collecting cels/sketches rabidly LOL!
:rollin :hitting: :crackup
but we have oodles of fun!
:jump

Only pet we have is a demonic possum-rat called Shumai
:evilblk  (aptly named for her very rotund tummy resembling
a chinese dumpling :blob)

Since art had always been a part of my life, cel collecting
was a natural choice for me to make coming outta h.s. and to art skool.
Almost 5 yrs collecting but I find myself definetely slowing
down from the speed I originally started at.

I work at a dealership as a warranty clerk. Other than that, these days I busy myself with moderating a tattoo forum that shall remain nameless, work on my property, and these days spend most of my home time supporting my wife as she is getting her business off the ground.

Oh yeah raising a new puppy (Romano) 3 young goats (Nuisance, Nip, and Tuck) and our son.

Recently I had a fun interview with the curious whale...

Hmm...life outside of collecting: /hmm

I majored in business computer programing at junior college, but at the moment I'm working retail at a Sears store. It's located a block and a half from my house so it only takes me seven minutes to walk to work (saves on car insurance and gas).

Other Hobbies:

I don't have extra money to collect anything other than paper and plastic. Every once in a awhile I play a ren'ai/bishoujo game. I don't have time to play any other types of games since anime viewing takes up the rest of my spare time. I don't even have time to read science fiction books anymore. (Maybe I will as paper and plastic continue their die off)

I moderate the Maison Ikkoku Message Board, but the board has become really slow after 7-8 years of existence. You can only talk about the same story in so many different ways for so many years before everyone runs out of things to say. Regular members leave and the ones that stay begin to say things like "We had a discussion on this before. Please read this thread located here -----". :^^:

So the board is mostly down to three regular posters and we're forced to discuss currently airing anime. The good thing about a slow board though is that we haven't had to deal with any troublemakers for quite awhile. :)

I work on microprocessor design. Our products are used in cell phones, GPS devices, etc.

Aside from anime, I also collect comics. I have a PS2 and like RPG games. Currently, I'm playing Wild Arms 5. Play D&D with a regular group about once a week or two. Read fantasy/sci-fi novels, but read so fast that I rarely have anything that I care to read left.
