Sugars?

Post by duotrouble »

I've been getting in the habit I having a cup of tea every night at work. Of course, I hate hot tea so after it brews I usually cool it down before drinking it. I love iced tea. Weird, I know.

I use sugar in my tea when I'm at home. But the sugar at work is community sugar and that grosses me out. So I use the packets of sugar supplements. So which one is better? Is there one that's bad for you? Or are they pretty much all equal?

Splenda!!

It's higher in price but it's the closest substitute to the real deal, no nasty bitter aftertaste.

I don't usually use sugar packets, but given the choice, I go for traditional 'pink' Sweet n Low.

Price is no issue here since these are free packets at work. :^^:

No, no! :crackup I meant weird that I like iced tea but not hot tea. For some reason, hot tea upsets my stomach. Iced tea doesn't as long as there's sugar in it. And I always go for the decaf.

I love all tea.

When I was growing up, we always used honey in tea.

I hate artificial sweeteners, so I would go with Sugar (don't they have any of those packets). I prefer calories over chemicals, but that's just me.

If you have to use one, Splenda seems to spend the most on advertising lately, and people seem to like it.

At first I thought you meant "community" like the brand instead of one big sugar pot! I couldn't figure out what was wrong with community sugar! :crackup

But yeah, that is gross. I HATE artificial sweeteners, but if I have to use them I prefer Splenda. It doesn't have the weird after-taste that most of them seem to.

I don't like artificial sweeteners either. They make my mouth feel dry when I eat or drink something containing them. Give me organic, unrefined sugars, or honey instead.

I read an article a couple weeks ago in which scientists compared lab rats that were fed artificial sugars to rats that were fed natural sugars. The rats who ate the a. sugars took much, much longer to burn fat than those that ate n. sugars.

I've only been drinking tea for the past 3-4 yrs I've met Rayd
He's slowly getting me to drink it by feeding me corn tea, white tea, and oolong tea.

I just never cared for the stuff.
:emb

As for sugar, I'd stay away from the artificial sweetners that contain
saccharin since its been linked to causing cancer and urinary infections.
:OMG :wow:

I cant remember which one is the one that has the highest number of it,
but I know Equal is the one sweetner my mother uses since it has none.

Its the pink packet if I recall, that has tons of amount of saccharin
it even has a warning in the back that says "causes cancer"

:crackup

Go w/ honey DT!
Tastes better and is mother nature goodness!
I know they sell 'em in straw packets now for easy
traveling.

I agree. They sell little packets of honey and lemon for tea. Way better for you than any sugar or artificial sweetener.

I forgot to add to my first reply that you should be able to buy boxes of little packets of natural sugar at any supermarket or Walmart. Then you can take those to work with you for your tea. :)

I am a green Jasmine tea addict, but I actually drink it plain. No milk, no sugar....but it's really good, and green doesn't upset my stomach like black tea.

I rarely use sweetner in anything, but when I do, my choice is splenda. The news lately is that splenda is linked to weight gain, so that may be something to further look into.

I guess natural sugar is probably best, and I'm sure they sell individual packets at the supermarket, but splenda is pretty good too. Give it a try!

I drink about two large cups of tea when I work. Since I have boxes of tea in my food locker at work, I rotate between Genmaicha(brown rice/green tea), Barley, Peppermint, Plum, Chrysanthemum, Jasmine and White tea. I tend to drink more Genmaicha than anything else. I love how it smells.

I was talking to one of the passengers, a kidney specialist, the other day about tea. He mentioned that in terms of tea, Black tea takes it's toll on the kidneys as it is a concentrated brew. White Tea and Green Tea are fine. But, basically, the more bitter the brew, the better it is for your kidneys.
