To actually throw public safety into the wind because you can make more money just seems.....evil.

The program would work if there were camera's at every intersection, and only turn on 15% of them randomly... Operating costs would be 85% less and would have the same placebo effects of decreasing t-bones which are really dangerous.

1. I think you have to consider the fact that less police would be giving out red light tickets and would be able to focus their time on more important crimes.

2. Less injuries means less disability payments, hospital bills that the government may have to pay.

I think they just need to reprogram the lights.

T-bones are dangerous. I Have been in two within the past few years. One at a light and another while I was just driving and someone ran a stop sign coming out of a neighborhood that feeds onto the main road I was on.

I hate those cameras! I got a ticket in the mail from Arlington saying I ran a red light but the picture and video was not my car! It was my plate though... turned out to be an out of state vehicle but it was still a pain to have it dismissed. I have heard of people getting into wrecks stopping too soon so they don't run the red light thus the people behind them slamming on their breaks and rear ending them. I have also heard of that causing deaths.

I agree with Robo on how they should handle it. I dont drive in alot of areas that have them so I am not worried. There are maybe... 2 within a 5 mile radius of where I live and I rarely drive on those streets.

But you don't know much about people getting into wrecks stopping too soon so they do not run the red light thus the people behind them slamming on their breaks and rear ending them?

The Three Laws of Robotics:
1. A robot may not injure a human being, or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
2. A robot must obey the orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.

But the statistics have shown that there are less accidents overall at the intersections with cameras. Therefore the greater public safety is to leave them on.
