this is crazy ...

ok, go to google(dot)com...
type in your address(or any street address w/ city and state and zip code)...
click "Google Search"...
click the address in blue next to the map...
again click the address in blue ...
then when the bubble pops up on the map click "street view" and see what happens.

how on earth do they get these pictures?

edit.. i tried a buisness address but it didnt come up so try a home address instead.

lol, I remember when i first found this. Basically, there is whats called "google cams" literally cars that drive around with a camera on them recording streets and inputing the info online. Pretty cool right?

yeah you know what i just was looking at one of the pictures and i saw the shadow of the car...
i wonder why they do this? is it for military/ security pourposes?

The image has to be at least four years old due the what is seen in the image itself. For starters there is my previous vehicle, there is still lots of missing grass and deep ruts from the previous owners parking wherever they wanted and it still has the pillars on the porch we knocked down to open it up. Obviously my husband was riding one of his bikes around since it is sitting on the porch instead of in the shop. Plus when I turn the thing many homes have been fixed up since it was last taken. Talk about a time warp, lol.

Actually I don't think they go around on cars, I'm prety sure that its done via a sattelite imaging program. Then again I haven't looked much into it. Its pretty fun to look around, if you look into it far enough people posts all kindsa' crazy things they find on google earth by coordinates like naked women sunbathing, and random people caught in funny poses, even cats that are cute, or things that look funny ina topagraphical view. Google earth is pretty neat

Lol, I've looked up my house before. There's only an areal view available, but I got a good street view of my mom's house. It's kinda cool how you can pan down the street.

They really do drive up and down streets to get the ground view. Look for cars with weird cameras on top, like this:

I looked up my house..and well ive been living in this place for almost a year. An the car parked in the driveway isnt my car. So they havent updated my place for almost a year. We have had a broken down car in our driveway for almost a year..lol

i bet they have stuff that is quite a few years old... can you imagine trying to photograph the ENTIRE road system of the US?? and not just the main highways, but the back roads too... and not just photograph but document what street is what, what house number goes to what house...

wow!

it must be something to do with the government. i mean imagine how much money it costs to do an undertaking of that magnatude!
