Potty Training help

Post by MDKiller1 »

Hello everyone!

Just as the subject states im asking people for ways to help potty train my son. Hes alittle over 2 years old. Ive been told that boys are alot harder to potty train then girls and that most boys dont even start to potty train until they are 3 years old. However Michael has been telling me lately that he has to potty, but he tells me as hes doing it or right after he does it.

Here are a few things ive been told to do so far

1) When he says he has to go potty and he has already gone or is going. Just sit him on the potty with his diaper on so he gets the idea he needs to be sitting there when it happens.

2) Let him go in the bathroom with you so he can see what to do (we've tried that an hes more interested in climbing in the bathtub to get a bath..lol)

3) Buy a gumball machine thing, fill it up with M&M's and let him know that everytime he goes potty on the pot that he will get an M&M.

Id like to hear how other people got their kids to use the potty. Or any ideas that could help.

Thanks alot
Dee

We did a combination of Star Wars stickers (it came with a sticker book) and wearing those thick training underwear with the plastic cover -it had elastic on the legs and waist -pretty much the same as you have to put on a baby over their swimmers when they go to a pool. pull-ups are a bit of a backwards step.

Trained two boys and they were no problem. Once they talk it is easy...just ask them frequently if they have to go, and if they wait to long- they can grab on and hold it - until they reach the toilet ...
I also took them to the store to buy underwear they really wanted...
teenage ninja turtle and He-man. I told them I would get them and let them wear it ...but they needed to use the toilet and not get them dirty !
A few accidents of course but worked.
I would avoid using food as a reward....but that is just me :)

I remember helping my friend potty train my godson when I watched him for days at a time. I would do the following:

Take some Cherrios and pour them into the toilet then tell him to "shoot them". :rollin He LOVED that game.

I would put a potty in the kitchen and have him sit on it while I cooked. I gave him stuff to do as well so if he did happen to go he got rewarded.

I gotta say though that the Cheerios was the best idea.

That's too funny. I claim the idea first since it took place back in 1995. :nya: Take that Rosie! :nya:
