ok, ive tried EVERY player under the sun to try to get mkv files to play but it wont work!
i have an old mac and just nothing plays. .
if anyone here has a mac and they can play .mkv files, what player do you use?
ive tried... vlc, mplayer, realplayer, flv player, and windows media but nothing plays it ( i FINALLY got something i REALLY wanted to watch and i cant see it ).
PC people, what player do you use for the mkv? im going to try to take my files to work to see if i can play them there.
thanks!

You may want to try VLC player. I use it to play those file types all the time.

I absolutely hate MKV with a passion. WITH A PASSION. This coming from a windows user, even. They lag on my laptop or the subs go out of sync and it drives me absolutely nuts.
Not to mention my Xbox 360 can't play MKV off my portable drive, only AVIs instead. Which means if a fansub is MKV only, I don't watch it.

I absolutely HATE mkvs too. I thought it was just me because I have so little drive space on an older computer. I use the VLC player. Since their recent upgrade, I rarely encounter any problems playing mkvs. I still hate them because I can't transfer those files to my PSP, which is how I'm watch a vast majority of my anime nowadays.
Can you hear this fangirl squee?!

If worst comes to worst, you could just get a program to convert them to a playable file...
Of course, you could turn to Wikipedia, knower-of-all, that has a list of players that should be able to play it:

Perian 0.5.dmg

what does this mean?
I think that's an old version. The latest can be gotten here, but it requires a newer OS. sorry!
