You may want to try VLC player. I use it to play those file types all the time.

I absolutely hate MKV with a passion. WITH A PASSION. This coming from a windows user, even. They lag on my laptop or the subs go out of sync and it drives me absolutely nuts.

Not to mention my Xbox 360 can't play MKV off my portable drive, only AVIs instead. Which means if a fansub is MKV only, I don't watch it.

:stupid: :friends:

I absolutely HATE mkvs too. :redhot I thought it was just me because I have so little drive space on an older computer. I use the VLC player. Since their recent upgrade, I rarely encounter any problems playing mkvs. I still hate them because I can't transfer those files to my PSP, which is how I'm watch a vast majority of my anime nowadays.
Can you hear this fangirl squee?!

A lot of files are pretty big nowadays. I'm sure that's not helping the situation any.

If worst comes to worst, you could just get a program to convert them to a playable file...

Of course, you could turn to Wikipedia, knower-of-all, that has a list of players that should be able to play it:

Hey B16,
I think that's an old version. The latest can be gotten here, but it requires a newer OS. sorry!

I'm willing to bet it's because most of the new mkv files are in HD H.264 or higher and that you simply do not have the CPU horsepower to play them.

probably. my poor baby's so old ( from - GASP - 2003) that its just starting to wane on me ( freezing up on me more frequently). :l
it breaks my heart to think about getting a new one (it was the last presant my dad gave me before he passed).
