New Mexico Vacation help??

Post by ZombieBunny »

So my hubby decided to surprise me saying we are going on a vacation
in December, during his work break to celebrate everything that has
been going on (yay!)

But, I myself would like to keep it in a certain price range.

If anyone could suggest a place that stays in our budget
and would be fun please let me know!
Any help would be great.

Places we have been already:

Atlanta Georgia
Augusta Georgia
New Orleans
Lafayette
Baton Rouge
Oklahoma (somewhere in there lol)
Orlando
Key West Florida
Dallas
Austin
Corpus Christi
Fort Worth

Here are our details:

We plan on going for three days, December 27 - 30
Flight, hotel and car rental no more than: $1,100
Flying from: San Antonio TX

It really doesn't matter where you suggest.
We want to go anywhere lol

Thanks so much for any help :) :) :)

If we knew your point of origin we could probably make easier suggestions. After all, if you live in Seattle and we're all suggesting you go to Miami, you'll blow most of your budget on plane tickets.

And would you prefer somewhere cold and snowy, but with killer winter activities (like skiing), or would you rather someplace nice and sunny with an awesome beach?

How about Cajun country? New Orleans tends to be pricy, but Lafayette is much more reasonable and is in the heart of the cultural region. The food is amazing, the music makes you want to get up and move, and the hotel selection is still good and much less pricy. Plus you could probably drive from San Antonio and save on the airfare and car rental.

Ah gomen gomen Sensei, we have been there!
Man I am not good at giving details huh lol

We went to New Orleans, Lafayette and Baton Rouge during that trip and it was amazing.

I would like to go back but for now, probably something different.

Thanks so much!

No better destination for a break than Vegas. If you book early, flights and hotels can be a bargain. Just check expedia, and they have a deal for three nights at the Belagio, airfare, and car rental for $650.
Time is but an illusion. Lunch time...doubly so.

Have you ever been to Carlsbad Caverns in New Mexico? You could drive there from where you live, which would save on travel expenses. It's a gorgeous cave system and would be a relaxing couple of days, rather than trying to cram a big vacation into a short time frame.

Traveling around the winter holidays can be tough, as airlines jack their prices sky high during that period to take advantage of the increased level of holiday traffic. Driving someplace might be easier...and cheaper. :D

You could also try to find a cute bed-and-breakfast somewhere close by. They are always good for relaxing mini-breaks.

Savannah, GA and San Francisco, CA are the coolest cities I've ever been to. It depends on how relaxing you want your vacation to be. Savannah is a nice, relaxing place to visit and San Francisco is full of energy. Both are beautiful in completely different ways.

Have you thought of using the last minute trip deals that they have on sites like priceline?

You can find some really nice bargains, especially during the off season months.

If you don't already have a passport, get one. That way, if there's a last minute deal to somewhere in Europe or Asia, you can take advantage of it.

December is a good time to hit the warmer, southern states. San Francisco is pretty chilly during the winter, but it's still enjoyable. I recommend Florida, though, for the winter.

Disneyworld is a lot more fun when the pavement isn't sticking to your shoes.

Mammoth Cave National Park in Kentucky is a lot of fun. :) So is Scottsdale and Pheonix in Arizona, if you don't mind the heat.

I somewhat agree with ReiTheJelly, but don't go to a cave.....go to the mountains! Cloudcroft, NM is a nice quiet spot where you can enjoy the snow, wildlife(watch out for jack-a-lopes!), and keep warm with all the apple cider you want!!! Not to forget you can visit White Sands Park to the west, or get your UFO on in the east at Roswell!
