Yen to Dollar reaches lows

I heard yesterday that a lot of countries are trying to lower the value of their currency to make their exports cheaper in this recession. It seems that the U.S. is more energetic than most although the rumors about them wanting to start printing more currency is not helping the situation.

Was it the Euro that they didn't feel like purposely lowering the value of? I can't recall. But it's good for them if they want to buy something. :)

Great new, time to buy American goods :D

EUR/JPY : 1 / 114 (-14% than 10 years average exchange rate)
EUR/USD : 1 / 1.41 (+4% than 10 years average exchange rate)

Generates a -10% balance "firepower" on Japanese auction market, not so apocalyptic...

Sigh for the days when the pound was at 1£=2.1 dollars not to mention about 211 yen. It was nice having 20% off all the cels I bought! That said it sucked for our exporters, but for my own personal position it was nice!

When I saw some years ago that "American Standard" company products were made outside of the U.S. it cracked me up. :^^:

And Hershey chocolate is no longer made in Hershey, PA, though they still tour people through that factory as if it's used for anything.... Read the labels and you'll see it's now made in Mexico.

I promote buying American products whenever the American product is honestly the same or better. I don't support buying something substandard simply because it's made in the US. If the US needs to go broke figuring out that it needs to actually be.... oh.... COMPETATIVE.... I don't think that would be a completely bad thing. (Though it would suck.)

Yea, but it's not the designer or CEO that will suffer from not buying American goods, but rather the person on the assembly line that will. I'd respect a company whose leaders were willing to take a cut in their pay in order to maintain wages for their existing workforce, but sadly, what generally happens is that the company fires their workers and then the CEOs give themselves a raise.

I've heard some talk about American becoming like Japan in the 1990s, the "lost generation". I think it's quite possible. Not only are people still losing their jobs and homes, the impact that this is having on our young still has yet to be touched upon.
