I know what you mean about making do Nene, the amount of crap I used to watch just because it was a cartoon. That Tat was ace, I could get a She Ra right on my chest and undo all my manliness in one swoop! Way better then those new sailer tats all those di*khea*s are getting!

Oh and Guyvar III you must have seen the German Megaman intro, gotta love the techno! 8)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AA-NRCAW90o
They were called Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles in the some countries like the UK back in the 80s. They thought ninjas were too violent.
I can confirm that Jcaliff, it was always 'Hero' as opposed to 'Ninjas' for me in the UK. Bucky O'Hare, I did like but I had to keep it low key post a major ribbing from my friends for that one.

Yuri-chan Doug and Rocko's Modern Life wher big hits for me too. I remember Doug having this big thing for some girl and that being the central premis, not much more then that though.

I've just remembered this one The Dreamstone, it ended in the mid nineties when I left my childhood behind for my teens and stopped watching cartoons. I did watch the first couple of seasons, Zordrak was hardcore. His voice is up there with evilness alongside Soundwave out of transformers. 8)

Great to see some of those old cartoon intros again. I used to love watching Transformers, Mysterious cities of gold, Heathcliff, Eek the cat and lots of other cartoons back in the 80's and early 90's.

Two openings that I haven't seen mentioned yet:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sxh07tT52ys

The series I based my forum-name on: Macron 1. This and Transformers were my favourite cartoons at the time. The European version of Macron 1 which i used to watch was supposedly very different from the US version. The US version for example combined footage from two anime series to make the series, unlike the European version, which only used Sengoku Majin Goshogun. I hope the series will someday get a DVD release, though it seems very unlikely, as it had a habit of incorporating popular music of the time into the episodes, making for a copyright minefield.

Alfred J. Kwak ....I'm not sure if this series was ever broadcast in the US, but it was very popular in the Netherlands at about 1990-1992. It was a Dutch/German/Japanese co-production animated in Japan, based on a theatre show by Herman van Veen. Not a personal favourite, but still a pretty good series.

Me too although my active decade was mostly the 90s (which meant some 80s throw-backs thankfully). I remember the days when I could watch Nickelodeon all day on weekends without disliking anything. They had the best live action stuff too... Alex Mack, Pete & Pete, Clarissa, etc. Good days. n.n

She-Ra would be pretty cool in tat form. XD I haven't seen those new tats you mentioned although I live a pretty sheltered life at times lol. I probably try to avoid bumping into d*ckheads like that. I guess they started a new fashion trend of their own haha!

I just came across this site today selling retro tees, I was like a kid in a sweet shop: http://www.truffleshuffle.co.uk/store/

They have a ladies Trap Door shirt that I like the print of but it's... PINK. >.< Berk shouldn't be surrounded by baby pink, it's just not right. The Button Moon shirt was geekily fun though.

Ooh I remember that being shown here, I almost forgot that one. I didn't realise it had such well-travelled roots.

And regarding the Turtles in the UK, I think every kid knew the Turtles were ninjas even though it was changed to "hero", so I don't think the UK board who changed it did much good at wrapping kids in cotton wool. XD
Actually I remember singing the theme tune as a kid with the original "ninja" line but I'm not sure where I picked it up from. Everyone probably knew it was changed back then and it colloquially stuck. (*Drags Sylia in for some Turtle love.*)

And Jem...I can't believe I forgot about Jem. I had several of the dolls and the dress up set.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bgzZ2Ta0EpA

And, we can't forget G.I. Joe, whose crummy "And knowing is half the battle" segments regarding treading water (swimming) was great if you wanted to drown...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gc8mVs2H4Vc

Even the GI Joe theme animation makes most of the current kid stuff look fluffy.

Oh! And Ren & Stimpy. And the "Happy Happy Joy Joy Song"...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H84gkp5GEAM

Yeah, I remember "Eureka's Castle". I thought it was cute. Much cuter than the godforsaken Barney episodes that I was forced to endure at the babysitter's house.

....That's right, I forgot there were two different koala cartoons on Nick. I was thinking about the Noozles, initially....

Oh, and Nick also had these spiffy fairytales too in the early 1990s that were done by a Japanese studio. I can't remember the name of the show in the US, but, I did find an Italian dub of the "Jorinda & Joringel" on Youtube.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0WiyOCNv0Ik

I found a clip from YCDTOT... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LXKJVxCxhOY

(..."Stop the Execution!"....)

This was also a really creative interesting show. Also on Fox at the same time was Peter Pan and the Pirates, which I enjoyed as well.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2hg9qPei7W0

Another great cartoon of that era was Mighty Max. Richard Moll was fresh out of Night Court and he was fantastic as Norman. And of course, Rob Paulson who starrted in probably 90% of cartoons series back then was Max.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1-Q7a6SxIBk

My sister was a huge fan of Exosquad in the 90s. I liked the rerelease of Robotech toys under the Exosquad name. :)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wHKyY2DTEco

Also from the 90s, one of the best shows on PBS was Shari Lewis' Lamb Chop's Play-Along. Even though I was much older than the target audience, Shari Lewis was an amazing performer who didn't talk down to her audience and made the show entertaining for all ages. God, she made Barney look like the insufferable purple dinsosaur he really was. My mom was a huge fan of her from when she was a girl. :) And while the opening is cute:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OVZDbHUG-_0
It's the ending that everyone remembers. This is the song that doesn't end...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1_47KVJV8DU

And while my youngest sister was of the age when Zoobilee Zoo was popular,
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Y6GxqrKO90
My other sister and I were more around the age for the Great Space Coaster (though even that I was a little too old for). But no gnews is good gnews with Gary Gnu.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dddm5bQeKvg

My favorite early, early childhood show however, was a local area children's show that was only shown in the Tri-State Area around New York: The Magic Garden, starring Paula and Carole. I had probably the first Magic Garden fan website on the internet, and when they finally set up their own site they linked me! :D
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PoSluR6Xkzk

Cartoon-wise, from my younger childhood days of course I loved Star Blazers and Battle of the Planets, but I also liked a lot of other shows.

Flash Gordon - even back then I loved Prince Barin. :D
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6mT3FeaO_sM
I also loved the live action movie. And later even the unrelated Defenders of the Earth.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Nm_jJBkHtU

Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors, like Darkwater, another epic serial with no ending.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A1c1G24GWDg

Dungeons and Dragons - Hey look, it's the Dungeons and Dragons ride! I bought this the second it was released on DVD.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mfif5DiGMYc

Hulk Hogan's Rock and Wrestling - yes, I know. But I really liked Hulk Hogan back then.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jPSra3AccE0

Shirt Tales - a Hallmark property that they turned into a Saturday morning tv show, it was a silly pleasure.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kHgBJLSk2m4

Herself the Elf - another Hallmark property. They made a single video, which I loved. I eventually got a copy of it on VHS. I collected Herself the Elf toys too. I still have them.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3xudT98iThc

Laff-A-Lympics - I loved Scooby Doo, and I was always rooting for the Scooby Doobies over the Yogi Yahooies. What could be more fun than having a whole bunch of cartoons all crammed together in one show?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EC4l-P20V-Q

The New Shmoo - I can't begin to explain. For you youngsters, the Shmoo was originally from a newspaper comic called Li'l Abner - it was before my time however. Yet, when I was a kid, there was shmoo stuff everywhere. I always wanted the shmoo balloons from the store. HB released a pretty bad cartoon to capitalize on it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BYT3zezajOM
I always wondered if Barbapoppa's designs were based on the Shmoo. Was Li'l Abner popular in France?
Image Image
Hector the Collector loved these things with all his soul,
Loved them more than shining diamonds, loved them more than glistenin' gold.
Hector called to all the people,"Come and share my treasure trunk!"
And all the silly sightless people came and looked...and called it junk.

Man there's just so much stuff I hadn't even seen... Infact the more you look at it the more personal our cartoon watching appears to be, despite their massive spread around the globe. Each person seems to have at least 1 or 2 shows no one else remembers. Kind of like our own thumbprints on our childhood...

Damn you Nene, you've just opened up a whole new way for me to spend money now... Eyes the Bad Mutha ****** wallet with eyes of want.

Jcaliff I was thinking of Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors. I really liked it at the time, but when I look at it now it seems deceptively naff. But when you think of it from a kids point of view (think diggers with lazers) then it's actualy a stroke of genius. You can just imagine the Executive looking for his inspiration and seeing a building site across the road and thinking 'Bingo'. :P

Ahhh just thought of another Dogtanian this was completely essential to my childhood I loved this show. I just read the book it was based on and its actually one of the best adventure books I've ever read and desereves the title 'classic'. As does this show

Did you guys know that R.L. Stine was the head writer for Eureka's Castle?

I can't believe no one has mentioned Inspector Gadget yet:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e-JHfXVlkik

I think its one of the best cartoon intro's ever. Although, Beetlejuice had an awesome opening too.

And I have to share Sonic the Hedgehog opening (SatAM version) again because I was absolutely obsessed with it when I was little. This show was way ahead of its time.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G4jd0UWGPgY

And I have to share these openings from Scooby Doo:

Scooby Doo Where are You
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0_C2HJvtRDY

The Scooby Doo Show
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JPTOrqmdTqI

The New Scooby Doo Movies
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jMNsI9qh5TQ

Scooby and Scrappy Doo
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LV6a4aBtcVg

A Pup Named Scooby Doo
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JNXdIgnRVqs

The only Scooby Doo cartoon I couldn't stand was The 13 Ghosts of Scooby Doo.

Also, is anyone else here a fan of That Guy with the Glasses? His Nostalgia Critic reviews are hilarious:

http://thatguywiththeglasses.com/videol ... gia-critic

I feel very lucky to have grown up during a time when there was SO MANY cartoons on TV. Kids today are seriously deprived. Oh well, at least they have Harry Potter to make up for it.
