Music Recommendations

Post by cutiebunny »

Ungh. I need some more music. 200+ songs on the iPod isn't enough to get me through my workday. I'm in search of some new blood.

And, if it's J-pop, preferably a place to get it. I don't mind paying a reasonable fee for it, I just don't want computer viruses. I tried to buy Tee's new song on iTunes, only to find that, because I don't live in Japan, I can't buy the song. Sadly, I find that to be the case with most J-pop music on iTunes - it's region locked.

So, please recommend me some new music to listen to. I'll listen to anything as long as it's not squeaky high pitched girl (or guy..?) voices.

Hey Cutie,

My favorite band is Coldplay. I feel they're very neutral with a lot of genres, so I think a lot of people with different tastes can appreciate their style. I love listening to them because it honestly relaxes me. Try listening to their album "A Rush of Blood to the Head." Good luck in your search. I'll be sending over some long awaited images via email.

In terms of J Pop I wouldn't know.

But I'd actually reccommend Buck 65 (Man Overboards and Squares are both good) he's hip hop, but do not let that put you off he actually sounds kind of bluesy.

If you want cheap LEGAL music, go to gomusicnow.com. All songs are .09 each. Most CDs are under $2. Plus, they have a larger library than iTunes. Much larger. Here is what I am listening to...

Arcade Fire
Florence and the Machine
The Raconteurs
Fistful of Mercy
Stevie Ray Vaughn
Them Crooked Vultures

Happy hunting.
Time is but an illusion. Lunch time...doubly so.

I second Arcade Fire!

You also might want to try....

Band of Horses
The Decemberists
Missy Higgins
Architecture in Helsinki
Bliss

Mostly Modern Alt., but different enough, especially Architecture in Helsinki, the music is......best described as music you sing while in the shower!....... Happy hunting with your search.....

I'm going to personally recommend Anberlin. I love them, their best album is definitely "Cities" but their new album has 3 songs I'm attatched to at the moment: To The Wolves, Impossible, and Take Me (As You Found Me).

But I would also recommend Lisa Loeb (she had a huge single back in the 90's "Stay" but her whole Nine Tails album is incredible and it's a shame she wasn't signed when she had her hit as she's now fallen into the underground of the music scene.)

Wow, so many suggestions. Some of these groups I've heard before, but, for some reason or other, it never dawned on me to look for stuff from them.

(Yeah...I'm clueless...)

MM, thanks for the suggestion regarding the Japanese iTunes cards. Someone mentioned these on another forum, and I kept wondering how I'd go about getting one. I was starting to get almost to the point where I was considering paying $20 in shipping costs just to get the Tee single.

Perfume is great thou if you want the
original shibuya-kei source (sound-wise), you guys should
take a listen to Capsule.
The producer (Nakata) is the same as Perfume and Meg,
thou Capsule has a very retro 60's pop electronica
bossa nova beat to it. Sounds weird, I know, but its really neat!
My favs by them are Plastic Girl, Starry Sky,
Music Controller, and Tokyo Smiling.
It gives ya flavor of what their music sounds like!
