You don't have permission to access "http://stat.ameba.jp/user_images/201012 ... 656313.jpg" on this server.

I've seen this kind of nail work before it's so beautiful and amazing! I wish I could wear them but I won't ever do acrylics it destroys your nails. My mom had done them for most of her life and had gotten an infection from the salon When she had stopped doing them her nails were as thin as paper it was SO painful for her at the time it took years for them to stop hurting and get stronger

D123: Your poor mom!! I totally agree!! Acrylics are terrible for your nails and are actually banned in certain European countries. It causes health problems for the workers when they drill it off (all that chemical dust!!) and RUINS your nails. Acrylics are basically "hard gels" that needs to get drilled off and suffocates your nails. All the US salons use Acrylic cuz it's the cheapest product...
Nail Salons in Japan stopped using acrylic a while back and are now using "soft gels" which are basically "soak-off UV gels" - which doesn't damage your nails AT ALL. The most popular brand in Japan is "Calgel" and it actually promotes healthy nail growth! And when it comes to designs, sky's the limit (as you just saw)!
I've only seen Calgel available in Japanese nail salons so if you ever have a chance, do give it try! I highly recommend it! I do mine and my friend's nails and she's a total Calgel believer now.
There's Michi salon in Mitsuwa in Edgewater, NJ and Sakura Nail Salon in Manhattan that does Calgel if you're ever interested. ;D
Oh, if you couldn't tell my two hobbies are cel collecting and Calgel nails.

Edgewater, NJ and Manhattan are too far away like an hour and half+ but my birthday’s coming up in September maybe my mom and friends would like to treat me I’ll have to ask. Is there anything for home users/beginners? Definitely would like to give them a try!
............It's amazing what can be done with nails...

Wow very pretty! But on my hands, they prob won't last too long. Still, hope I can try calgel one day. Unlike other parts of the body, I can admire art on my nails any time (e.g. during boring talks or meetings).

I love this kind of nail art its so fun!
I've always wanted to try cal gel hime gyaru-style nails
but unfortunately it would prevent me from
doing my job properly. >_<;;
So these days when I have a meet-up, I doll up
my own nails as best I can painting (I love Opi line)
using brushes and deco'ing them up w/ flat-bottomed
rhinestones and pearls.
Theres a couple of shops in L.A, San Jose, and San Francisco
area that do the cal gel too. My friend goes to one called Nail Art house
inside the New People building.
They are hella expensive thou, at about 70-250 for something
that lasts just a 1-2 weeks (for me, maybe a few days because
I'm so clumsy LOL!)
I'm curious, how much is it in the NJ area Promethium?
Do they do the layered up 3-d art?? *__*
One day... one day! I'll have to just try it..

Re: Anime/Manga + Nail Art = Total Awesomeness
Would be a fabulous b-day gift! But when it's time to take it off you need the soak-off liquid (don't rip them off your nails!) Maybe if you explain you live far away they'll give you some and show you how to take it off at home (bring a small airtight jar to put the liquid in).D123 wrote:Edgewater, NJ and Manhattan are too far away like an hour and half+ but my birthday’s coming up in September maybe my mom and friends would like to treat me I’ll have to ask. Yes, there is a beginners kit! You have to take a 20 hour class to be able to buy it tho cuz you need to learn how to use it. You don't have to be a licensed nailist tho which is the good part. Maybe there's a salon in your area that does classes?
Here's the US distributor's website.

I used to get Calgel all the time at a salon but it gets expensive quick! $$$ Hence I took the class and bought the kit. Now I do it at home and it's way more economical! Plus it's fun to do it yourself too.

Calgel usually lasts about 2~3 weeks. Calgel on your toes lasts about 4~6 weeks (cuz toenails grow much slower).Cordelia wrote:Wow very pretty! But on my hands, they prob won't last too long. Considering regular nail polishes chip in a few days and if you get manipedi every week, it's cheaper (and prettier!) to do calgel.
Nail Art = great distraction!

I'm sure there's an official European distributor and French salons that carry it tho.
Here's the link to the official US distributor - Hope this helps.
