Visiting, but not visiting?

So how is it that some members can visit Beta, have their names show up that they're here and/or that they've visted in the past 24 hours, but then when you click their profile it says that they haven't been here for several months or a year?

Is that a bug of some kind? I thought if you click "Hide Online" status in your profile that your name doesn't show up on the bottom at all? ?^_^?

So how are they able to visit and yet not visit? If it happens often I'll have to reconsider wishing people a happy birthday when their profile says that haven't visited here for a long time. They might have in fact visited here yesterday, but their profile visit date didn't update.

I thought when you clicked on their profile it shows the last date they posted not visited even though it says visited.
