Someone must be a huge Tezuka fan...or rather there must be at least two of them to bid it up so high like that.

I did see last year a Mayazaki painting go for 12000000 JPY on Mandarake Big Web Auction (about $104,000)!! But, wow! This impresses me every time. The only other cels/sketches (etc) I see go for this much are early Disney cels fromt he 1940's.

that, my friends, costs more than a picasso triptych I drooled over last summer in beverly hills. I think if I had that money to spend, I'd go for the picasso...

There's a premium for the very best. For the same price I'd rather collect the higher end of something more affordable than the lower end of what's not. I'd say this qualifies as the very best from Tezuka.

For those who missed it, there's a second drawing on the back side that's pretty detailed. So you can think of it as two $8000 drawings rather than a single $16000 one ^_^
