WOWzers! That is definately the highest I've ever seen an auction! 8O
It must be super rare with the different Osamu characters from different series PLUS it being an original artwork done by him and autographed by him as well. At least I would think that's his autograph since it's worth so much.

Wow. 8O Original drawing by Osamu Tezuka.... 8O

He's considered the "father of manga", hyelakingsfan. More info about him can be read here and additional links are at the bottom. :)

OMG... oh to be independently wealthy! That's just an amazing piece!

Tezuka is more or less where this all started (at least in the U.S.) since Astro Boy was the first anime to make it over here.

To me, though, he is SO much more than Astro Boy or even the very identifiable art style. His writing is completely brilliant, funny as heck, and very moving. Grab a volume of anything he did and you'll see what I mean.

This is great work :OMG I wish I could afford it.... :(

Like vampy said he is called the father of anime in Japan so it is very very rare to have his original with his autograph...... It is almost that you can reserve it in an art musium (this is really art musium quality :OMG)

Ooooo ... nice. These are all his most famous characters, including Princess Sapphire from [Ribbon No Kishi (The Knight of the Ribbon or "Princess Knight"), who is recognized as the earliest "magical girl" character and the prototype for all those who followed. Notice how my "Prince Sakura" cel is obviously wearing a costume based on Tezuka's character design, something Japanese audiences would notice immediately as CLAMP's tribute to "manga no kami."

You've also got Astro Boy, Black Jack, Kimba the White Lion, and Unico, all his creations. And, yes, that's his signature, with the two dots added to make the final "mu" character a "mushi" or little bug. (His pioneer animation studio was Mushi Pro.)

$14K well spent by someone.

An original illustration like that with all his signature characters is bound to raise a lot of capitol, it looks great!

I noticed that there's plenty of high-end artwork in the current auctions, one auction features signed sketches by one of my fave manga artists but it'll probably fetch too much for me to even consider bidding on :(

I'm enjoying watching these auctions and seeing what prices they reach- the Totoro ones have my attention, they're lovely.

That was a great auction! Features two of my favorite Tezuka characters:
Black Jack and Princess Knight. Whoever won it is a very lucky person indeed.

Good luck to everyone else with their auctions, if they are still going. :)

Wow, that is by far the most expensive piece of anime art I have seen sold, though I don't normally go looking for them. That is an amazing historical piece as well as just really cool from a die hard fan prespective too. Congratulations to whoever had the funds to snatch that piece.
