My bro told me that he was buying a couple of anime DVD [a shock because I usually do all the buying and he gets to watch my collection, LOL] he suggested Amazon because they had some cheap Ghibli DVDs.
After taking a look, I think it's the cheapest I've seen Ghibli DVDs for so if you're in the UK, take advantage now. Many films are GBP 7.89 which is over 60% off.
For example: Pom Poko, Porco Rosso, The Cat Returns, Totoro, Howl's Moving Castle etc...
I finally picked up Totoro and Naussica with it's dual language options, something that has been missing from the prior UK releases for a long time.

And keep in mind that UK releases are different from USA releases. Not the same Region for DVDs, and not the same type of TV broadcast signal for tapes.
I get my face rubbed in this regularly, since I've been on the hunt for the US release of 50 Million Years to Earth/Quatermass and the Pit. Ebay usually has tons, but all UK editions!

Hey Sugar, all these DVDs are totally official, I often buy DVDs from these sources and have always been impressed with the quality of the product and their service. It may or may not be cost effective for you to buy them, you'd get stung on shipping and there's the Region obstruction to think of.Sugarflower wrote:Do the UK dvds have different packaging because the USA version (released by Disney) do not look like those. Would these be HK dvds (bootlegs) since they are so cheap?
I prefer to buy the official Chinese/Japanese/Korean films here [and a few other places] because the extras are usually excellent. There are a couple of great UK labels that release asian films- Hong Kong Legends and Artsmagic.
If you purchase the equivalent film abroard, esp from Asia itself, it won't include the extras. If there are any bonuses, they probably won't have English subtitles

So yeah, these European Region 2 disc will usually have alternative artwork too. Again, I think this is partly an incentive for people to buy the domestic release as opposed to a foreign one.
Like in Japan where the official DVD will cost about USD 40.00 - 50.00, you'll often get a couple of bonuses for your bucks.
The Recommended Retail Price [RRP] for these DVDs in the UK is usually GBP 19.99 [about USD 38.00]. So when I saw the Ghibli films for under 8 pounds, I was excited ^__^
However I just learnt today that 'Film 4' [Digital TV channel] is showing a selection of Ghibli films inc Naussica, Totoro, Kiki's, Porco... so UK folk may wish to save their pennies and watch them for free.
Still, you can't beat having them on disc
