Huh, I shipped a lot of stuff out of the country via 1st Class International, and they all made it fine. The only failed shipment I had for all of my massive amount of Ebaying I did last year was a vintage stereo amplifier bit it in transit to Texas via UPS.
1st Class International can take a veeery long time, though. I do know that. I sent an EMS package to Germany that took almost 4 weeks, 3.5 of which was their ridiculous Customs holding it, so it's really hit and miss no matter what you ship things some times. But tracking is always a good thing.
Don't ever send by 1st Class International
