^ Has it occurred to you that priorities have changed for many collectors since we first started collecting, Starfighter? Between the cel heyday of 2000-2001 and now, we've grown up, gotten out of school and many of us now have families of our own. Spending several hundred to a grand on a cel may not be practical for many now, or if it is, they may need to take a payment plan and may not have felt comfortable asking or assuming that you would honor it. Obviously, this may not be the reason behind every "lowball" offer you received, but I would not be so rash as to assume that people are still harboring decade-old grudges against you. In my case, I've largely moved on from Sailor Moon cels, but felt that if you were liquidating your collection that I would like to own the two cels that I once told you that I admired the most.
Every time you feel slighted in this hobby, Starfighter, you blow up over it and immediately hide or delist your gallery. That seems like such an overreaction. If there are some items you are not interested in selling for whatever reason, simply hide it the next time you want to take offers on your items. This will spare both you and a possible buyer the frustration of dealing with a "lowball" offer and you feeling the need to explain your decision not to sell.
Regarding the "for offers" discussion, I'm more prone to offer a higher amount if I see that the seller is willing to do a payment plan. Even so, I don't mind haggling, and if a seller wants a higher price, I don't mind trying to find a happy medium for both parties. I never would send an offer specifying that the amount I give is the most I'd be willing to pay. I haggle with buyers and sellers alike, and feel like it's almost expected by both parties.

Re: For offer
This is why I detest making offers... People get insulted. In this case, there were a couple cels I saw that I liked, but I don't know the prices for Sailor Moon at all, so I didn't make an offer because I didn't want to make an uninformed offer. Had a price tag been put on the cels, I could have had a chance to decide if I wanted them that much. I've actually quite often paid MORE for a cel than I would have considered offering, simply because the seller put a price on it. You need to remember, yes, the offer you're looking at might be coming from someone who has been following the given series for a long long time and they're intentionally trying to lowball you... HOWEVER, you could be dealing with someone who just wants a couple certain things from said series and isn't amazingly educated on what the prices are.... much less, were. I've been in the latter position more than several times and there's nothing as frustrating as making an offer, then getting brushed off with "I wanted more for it" and ignored when I attempt to ask what price was in mind.
Personally, I've responded to EVERY offer I've received (even though my website, when I had one, clearly stated all offers would be ignored)..... that includes the absolute most piss poor offer anyone has probably ever received. If I can civilly respond to an unsolicited offer of $20 for a whole PAGE of my cels (and by the way, they wanted shipping included for that) then I think anyone who is soliciting offers should be willing to respond to low offers without getting insulted.
Personally, I've been wishing that things swing back to people just putting price tags on sales again. If you(read: someone) want to sell something, it's much faster and easier when people know what you want and aren't trying to guess what's on your mind.

Re: For offer
Did you ever think that some of us do not know the value of certain cels and sketches? In that case you should not feel upset about low ball offers.
I do not know values for certain pieces, and value is subjective. It also does not mean that value will hold after so many years. THE BEST way to avoid this is to put prices on pieces.
For someone a cel worth $500 might sound reasonable, while to another person it might sound insane.
When I have offer periods I accept offers 90% of the time because both parties come to a happy medium. I also know that sometimes people need a price because they are too shy to ask.
You need to see things from other people's point of views...many people have busy lives and have other things to do, I am sure they are not out to get you

^^ This. My first post was suggesting this exact sentiment. It sounds like just about everyone else here agrees -- the value of cels is very subjective. Feeling insulted is one thing, but posting about it is quite another. The key here is: if you want a certain amount for your cels, price them as such and be done with it!moonrabitt wrote:Did you ever think that some of us do not know the value of certain cels and sketches? Re: For offer
Lol Lunacels...I seem to remember making you an offer you couldn't refuse some ten years ago on a gorgeous Galaxia cel. I believe I'm still paying it off on my credit card...and she is still the apple of my eye.
Soooo good to see you are still around.
: to the old timers.
I've been thinking about thinning my collection with a sale at some point, so I popped on to see how the SM market is fairing with Crystal having been out for a good while now. It does seem to be all over the map.

Hi Cypress! Ha, I have to laugh because I don't remember ever having an awesome Galaxia...In fact, it took me many years before I even found a standard issue cel of her--as in like, this year!
(Chaos cel notwithstanding.) Was it LunaArt maybe? She is a far more profilic collector than me, though I have been around a while. My collection started in 1998ish, and I like to think that means I'm vintage, rather than just plain old.
Do you still have a gallery up somewhere? It's so great to see people still collecting SM!

Re: For offer
Oops! Nope I'm thinking of Luna Regina. So many Lunas.
But I have also been a fan of your page for a long time so I suppose it is understandable. I started collecting in 99. Here is the cel I sold my soul for in case you are curious.
I don't have a current gallery but will have to work on putting my old one back up at a new address.

Re: For offer
Completely gorgeous!! That was definitely worth it! I hope you get your gallery online soon...you should announce it here when you do. There's definitely one excited future patron already!
There's actually quite a few SM collectors yet, so your efforts would most certainly not go unappreciated.
I remember Luna Regina. Her gallery was really something--every cel in it was to-die-for. I remember that Galaxia, and an Iron Mouse that I dearly loved. (I'm not sure if she sold it or if LunaArt picked up a sequence mate, but now I visit it there.
) I wish the Regina gallery was still with us. I wonder what a lot of those folks are up to!
