Am I right to be wary?

Post by Noriko010884 »

I had someone purchase a cel from me through the Rubberslug shop. Things went as usual, with me providing shipping options and prices and him paying for the cel.. the thing is I sent the cel on the 15th of August and he's still not received it.

He opted for airmail shipping so there's no way I can track the cel, but the cel was sent at the same time as three Golden Boy dougas and a Kakashi douga. The recipients received their goodies within a week if I remember correctly, but this guy's still waiting apparently.
The green customs label was filled in the same as the other two and like the other two this artwork was destined for the US. Why would this package be treated any differently?

His e-mail address is jyejye318@yahoo.com and he is registered on Rubberslug but no gallery is available. Does anyone know this gentleman or at least have any experience with him?

I'm wary because this has never happened before and I want to be careful, but if he's genuine and hasn't received the cel then I feel it unfair that he lose out on the cel AND his money (, though I don't think I should lose out either).

I've asked him to enquire at his post office as I'll do with mine, but with no tracking details I don't think my PO can do anything for us. If for some reason the cel is returned to me I'll contact him and we'll arrange for redelivery, which I've told him, but I'm just cautious and hope someone can let me know if they know of him and can assure me that he's an honest guy.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Its always good to be cautious. I take it neither one of you requested insurance on the package. I dunno, maybe the postoffice can turn something up. I'm not sure how good they are at international stuff, but I know they turned up something lost for me at least one -though that was domestic (without tracking info). The good thing about cels though, is that if it shows up anywhere, you have photographic proof to prove that you owned that cel and it was technically lost, and you'll have the tracking papers (they send a copy to the reciever of the package to sign if they cant find it) to prove that it was lost. The shipper always has to be the one to initiate the tracer on the package -they typically do not accept it from the reciever of said package -though again, it might be different for international packages.

Good luck to you and your buyer!

A few months ago I mailed a package to a friend overseas using airmail. She waited and waited and waited and waited with nothing showing up. Well over a month went by then low and behold it appeared with a stamp stating 'economy'. I was fuming as well as relieved it had finally arrived to her. Apparently I paid for airmail but the postal system must have mistaken it for economy post.

So it could be a possibility that your package may have been accepted as economy shipment at one point. I hope it arrives to the buyer soon.

Some countires, such as Italy, have horrible mail systems. If you send anything to Italy and choose not to insure it, you can kiss it goodbye. The postal system is so corrupt that most of the packages end up in the hands of the postal officers unless you purchase tracking. When I send to Italy, I make it mandatory that registered mail service(minimum) be purchased. Even EMS takes about 2 weeks to get there when it generally takes about 4 days to arrive in similiarly located countries in Europe.

My rule of thumb is that, if the company is pretty rough and the government is corrupt, buy insurance. That includes all of Latin America, South America, most regions of Africa(S. Africa has a good mail system) and some regions of Asia.

I hope that your package arrives to its destination soon!

The wait through customs can be huge at times. Take this thread as an example of what can happen :(

I once had a package from Canada take over a month to get to me. I'm in the US, and it was airmail, so that is pretty insane. When I got it, though, there were no signs that it had been opened or mishandled in any way--pristine condition! 8O

If you offered this guy insurance and he didn't pay for it, then you shouldn't be held liable. However, you might want to check with JWR about RS's shop policies--just in case, you might want to see what kind of proof of sending you'll need.
