Off to Japan

Hi,

Have fun there. I was there last september. Just one thing. Be well prepared, get all the info (adress and so) before you go cos there english is useless and simple internet cafe does not exist or only in the hotel. Or have your wireless computer.

Have fun in Japan Blaster! Let us know what you think of the ramen (I've been eating udon lately and it's just delicious).

I love seeing trip pictures, nice to see the different angles of Japan from other people's views.

I agree with Kujaku, lovely gallery, 'Dro!
Apart from the architecture of the old buildings, I think the things that define the country are the trees/plants; and in the city- the metal telegraph poles with all the traffic lights/phone lines etc extending from them. You have lots of brilliant images which depict this ^__^

Finally got through all the pics - very nice akadro!

well, I paid the desposit yesterday, whee!

Spending 3 days in Tokyo and doing a Tokyo morning tour with lunch, which sounds great. My brother's friend is also going to take us to Tokyo Tower at night.

Then spending 3 nights in Kyoto with a Sagano Arashiyama walking tour.

Then it's onto Osaka for a night - going to check out the Osamu Tezuka museum (very excited!)

Then we're back in Tokyo for 6 days, which we will use to sightsee and go shopping!

I'm so pumped for this trip. I'm debating whether to take a couple of those plastic cases that Rinkya sends stuff in with me.

I was in Tokyo and Kyoto for three weeks in June 07 and again in December 07. If you have time, I highly recommend visiting the Monkey Park in the Arishayma area. It is very close to the bamboo groves. Also, Toei Movie Land is in the same area. This is sort of a Japanese Universal Studios. There is a recreated samurai village there. Others have mentioned some of the major cultural sites in Kyoto already. For a really otherworldly experience, visit the Fushimi-Inari shrine in the late afternoon or evening. This is the shinto shrine dedicated to god of commerce. If you have seen pictures of thousands of red torii gates going up the side of a mountain, it is the Fushimi shrine. There too many sites in Tokyo to mention, but if you have some specific questions, you can always ask.

I would recommend Kiyozumi Deri - it's one of the most famous sight-seeing spots in Kyoto. The Nanzenji temple complex is also nice, and you can start the Philosopher's walk from somewhere near there. The Nishiki Street Market is packed with vendors selling all kinds of Japanese foodstuffs.

I wasn't all that impressed with Gion though.

Akadro, those photographs are GORGEOUS. The composition and the interesting angles... many things make them each very beautiful. Not your ordinary "travel pics" there!
