South Florida Checking In!

Post by GFunk »

Just wanted to say hi and introduce myself, my name is Garrett and I live in South Florida. Long time anime fan relatively new cel collector. Picked up a Spike from Cowboy Bebop and a few Aeon Flux cels, looking to expand my collection and mingle with the anime community.

I signed up for rubberslug but dont really like the setup, I am a web developer so I think I am just going to build my own gallery, I will let you know when its up.

I did want to ask, how do you get the clean digital pics of your cels? Do you scan them?

I use a Canon Canoscan LIDE 90 scanner, which is quick and has a bed that is gentle on cels and sketches. (It was originally designed to scan bound books.) The scans are somewhat dark, but I always include a strip of the scanner lid in the scan. Then I can use MS Picture Manager to reset the scanner lid to "white" and crop it off. Other curators may have more sophisticated Photoshop-type programs, but most of us start with a scanned image.

Good luck! We do have a number of "self-built" cel galleries in the community, who will be happy to give you suggestions or tech. help. Some of us less-tech-savvy folk have just learned to bear with the limitations of RS, or find ways to remedy them as best we can.

Thanks, I was looking at the Canon CanoScan 9000F

RS is fine, but as a developer the GUI is a bit frustrating for me personally, I'll get something up in the next week or two, I only have a couple cels right now so shouldn't take me very long

It's also reachable by clicking the little "globe" icon under your avatar and profile info.

Your "Spike" is well named: his hair seems extra spiky in your cel for some reason.

Heh: the source image in your own version of the character used to be my desktop background (before Gankutsuou came along.)
