Back... finally.

Post by 4_degree »

Hey everyone. Sorry I dropped off the face of the earth there for a while.

I decided in late August that I would be purchasing a whole new digital camera system (both for work and for my own personal use.) Why? A new camera had been announced that finally convinced me to stop shooting 35mm film for my personal work. Problem is, I was using the competitor's gear at the time.
Well, two months later, and quite a few dollars poorer, I've got almost everything I need for my new digital camera system, and my old digital/film hybrid system is almost completely sold off.
Was it worth it? You bet! The pictures are fantastic! Obviously the camera can only do so much (the rest comes from the monkey behind the viewfinder), but it's such a nice tool!

I should have a little more time on my hands now as the transition/learning curve winds down.
Sorry I bailed on all you guys.

Why do you have to do it?

So where's this great monkey you speak about?

Oooh, new toy... I see, get a new toy and fall asleep reading the manual. Apology accepted Captain Needa.

The Doctor : Yeah ! And doesn’t that scare you to death ?

I'll put some pics up this afternoon. Just have to fiddle with the FTP program a little...

And hopefully I won't screw up all of Zero's hard work in the process. :D

Yoshito... you'd be surprised how nice the pictures are when I let a monkey use the camera. Much better than if I was taking them myself. I'm tellin' you, that trained chimp was the best investment I ever made. :P

Welcome back, 4d! In addition to the pics, I would love to know what camera you finally decided to buy. I think a new digital camera will be what I ask for for Christmas this year, and I'd love to know what other people are buying and liking.

As promised, here are some of my "test" pics. They are resized, but they're still pretty big; just FYI.

And Shellie, Zero isn't lying. I picked up a Canon 5D, a 24mm-70mm lens to go with it and a flash. I've got one more lens to pick up, which will put the total cost at about 6k. Pro gear isn't cheap.
I do highly recommend it, though. :D

Those are some great pics taken with your 5D 4D :P. I bought one of those Canon Digital Rebel XT's earlier this year and your right about prices - lenses can cost an arm and a leg - but they create such cool effects.

I am a pretty bad camera monkey as I usually end up trashing at least 85% of what I take. I blame my amazing ability to never keep perfectly still.

I am sure you will produce some amazing shots with that baby. Congrats on the buy!
