For those interested in my Bunny Rescue stuff...

Post by misa »

Hi everyone,

I did a big presentation last night to the TVAR (Tri-Valley Animal Rescue) Board of Directors to try to get them to fund our Rabbit Program that I have been developing over the past 3 years. Currently our budget is $500, and Casey and I have been putting about $15,000 a year out of our own pockets (plus time & energy) into developing this program. Our goal is to try to get them to fully fund us. You can also see the inside of our bunny area in the new house you all helped to pay for by buying our cels >.< ! :)

For those who would like to see the slides from my rabbit presentation please download the file below:

http://www.aino.com/rabbit_presentation07112006.pdf

Warning: it's big! (50 MB) It's in Adobe Acrobat so pretty much everyone should be able to read it.

Note: all of the cases are ones that I have worked directly with the rabbit at my house (Cinnabun, Brandybuck, Alaska, Rex, Mitzi, Emily, Connor, Vincent, 7 dwarves) or on a case as a volunteer (Hayward, Phoenix, Job, Christmas Eve Bunnies). This is a small selection of the cases I work on. You can also see our foster center pictured (yay to Marisa's garage).

The one case I did NOT work on but was valuable to show is the Best Friend's 1500+ Rabbit Rescue in Utah.

We are always looking for donations of items -- if you can donate anything for the bunnies, check out this list here:

Please let me know if you have any questions :)

Thanks to everyone who attended last night,
Marisa

I agree with Sugar. This is really awesome of you Misa. There are so many unwanted and hurt animals in the world, and little by little you give them hope. This presentation actually brought tears to my eyes. /sob

How some people can be so neglectful and hurtful to an animal is beyond me. Please keep up the great job and hard work. I too will look at the Donations and see what i can do.

:yourock: Thanks again for helping little creatures who cant talk for themselves. A big huge round of applause for you! *hugs* :hello

:bny :bny :bny We thank you too! :bny :bny :bny

I downloaded your presentation- very nicely done! I do remember reading in the news about "Phoenix" and remember crying because I have my own house rabbit and the idea that anyone could do anything so cruel to such a trusting, innocent animal was so horrible. I haven't heard/read anything recently, tho- has the teenage boy who did this gone to court yet or has anyone or the DA pressed charges?

Also- speaking of rabbit rescue- I was surprised to find out one of my co-workers at work does rabbit rescue. He recently took in a lot of the 100+ rabbits that were siezed one weekend by authorities and left at the Sac Shelter. He also recently finished converting his entire garage for all the rabbits- even adding air conditioning and everything else- so I have been able to see first hand just how costly it can be just to try and do some good. I really appreciate people like yourself and my co-worker who no matter what, always find a way to do something to help enrich these animal's lives and give them some long-needed comfort and love.

That's perfectly miraculous. What a wonderful recovery some of those poor neglected buns have made!! And they all look so sleek and happy.

I hope there's a special level of Inferno for people who would let their animals be reduced to such a state. Cats and dogs get lots of press when it happens to them... but you're really handling one of the big "undiscovered" issues here.

The key of course is what you said in one of those slides... "bunnies do not make good pets for children." If people would just research animals like bunnies and lizards and snakes before they go about snagging them as pets for their little ones!

If I had the time and wherewithal to adopt one I sure would... in the meantime I'll make you a donation and enjoy our family of backyard bunnies, some of the most delightful animals I've ever had the pleasure of meeting :) Thanks so much for the update, Misa!
