After that, your adrenaline kicks in and it's just a buzzing numbness. Make sure you eat before yoy go. Every artist I've talked to has had a story about folks passing out in the chair. Their adrenaline kicks in and they have a hypoglycemic reaction.
Fact: men faint more often than women. Women tend to piss themselves, vomit or do nothing at all. Oh, and cry. Women tend to cry and squirm, which really screws up tattoos.
I've never heard anything about eating prior as a cure for the fainting, but I guess anything's possible. Seen people eat dinner and still have problems staying coherent. A great deal of the trouble stems from the excitement and their fixating on what's happening. Sometimes the sight of blood can trigger folks. Just the fact that they are getting a tattoo/piercing is a "big deal" and they go into pseudo-shock. It's typically psychological, a lot of people who faint
want to faint. The attention and excitement of the process leads to stiff muscles and down they go. Always hilarious.
No matter what, do not drink before hand thinking it will help with the pain. Alcohol thins the blood and you'll bleed more/more easily. If you pass out (either from the process or from the alcohol), your pores close up. Good artists will wait for you to revive before continuing. Bad artists will finish your tattoo while you're passed out. Ink needs open pores.
