I said goodbye

Post by Not Sir Phobos »

I had to say goodbye to my grandpa yesterday. Time of death was around 10:00, I couldn't stop holding his hand till about 10:30. He went without pain, and my whole family was there. I took the wedding ring off his finger and gave it to my grandma, kissed his head, said goodbye and pulled the cover over his face.

He was the kind of guy I hope I can be someday.

Aww, I'm so sorry for your loss, NSP. :l Even when someone's passing is gentle and expected, it still leaves a little void in your life for awhile. I'm glad you could be with him at the end though. :ghug:

I'm very sorry to hear that. Sounds like he was a good man who was given a dignified and peacefull death. Good for him.

Durring WWII he was shot out of the sky, a crash he walked away from. He was on a boat that was bombed and sunk, he swam away from it.

The only thing he couldn't escape was age.

In a world in which we vainly try to sanitize ourselves from contact with mortality, I admire you tremendously for the job you took on at this crossroads moment. It was, in many ways, a real passing of the torch. I'm sure it meant a lot to your grandmother, and I believe it meant as much or more to your grandfather.

May we all be able to pass as gracefully and with as much support from our families.
