Buying a new car

Post by Krafty »

Well I'm very happy at the moment because I just bought a new car! :multi It'll replace the 18-year old banger I've been driving since I passed my test 10 years ago. [About time too]

I decided what I wanted a few days ago- Chrysler PT Cruiser, and looked on the net for the best deals. But after spending AGES doing this, there was nothing advertised locally- at least in the colour I wanted with the appropriate trim.
I went for a drive to visit garages in person because my head was killing me.

They're pretty rare in the UK [probably because they're a little unconventional] but I found a promising one in the forth garage I stopped at.
The previous owner had added several new adornments which included chrome-plated side mirrors, Harley-inspired rear lights and a big shiny grill at the front. It also has a better gear knob, heh.
After taking it for the test drive I was convinced that I'd go for it.

Aside from adding some decent sound equipment to it, the last thing I'll do is buy the personalised plate I've had my eye on for years- 'K14FTY'. :P
[It's difficult to get exactly the letters you want on a licence plate so the numbers are a compromise]

Here's a pic of a similar model- but NOT the exact one I'm getting. Hopefully I'll add a more personal picture when I get the vehicle :)

Sweet Krafty!
Now, all that's left is to pick your ultimate sound system. 8)

Cheers for the feedback everyone! I'm definately looking forward to driving it- just to have a car with power steering is a luxury, let alone the heated mirrors, seats, cruise control etc.

Yes Zom, the colour is the same- but I think that photo makes it look darker than it actually is- perhaps it's the indoor lighting where that picture was taken.
LOL, Flonne! I hope that if I fiddle around with the buttons enough I'll stumble across the Mecha Activation switch- perhaps it was that big red button on the front of the dashboard that says "Use in an Emergency"...

Thanks mate; yes- it's a right-hand drive vehicle, Chrysler brought it over to the UK in 2000 and I read that 144,000 were imported.

Hey Transmet, a JBL setup would be amazing- I already have a 12" JBL sub in my little car but I'd prefer to beef it up to a 18" if possible now I have the extra boot space ;)

Unfortunately, Keropi, we are subject to road tax in the UK and it's applicable for everyone. For that vehicle I have to pay GBP 175.00 a year [USD 340] and it'll cost GBP 52.00 to fill up on fuel [USD 100.00]. I have to expect that since it's twice the size of my old car.
We mentioned these hefty costs on another thread early last year, it's not cheap to own a vehicle :? There goes my cel budget :O

It seems we have something in common.

Got the car this weekend and it's been nice driving it! ^__^
Plus, I've already been down the shops to buy some wax and colour restorer to keep it looking sparkly- I'll have to maintain it now!
Just need to add a few modifications and the audio equipment then I'll be made :)

Congradulations on purchasing such a good Chrysler product. I work for a Chrysler dealership as their warranty administrator and the PT Cruiser has very few complaints and/or repairs compared to other vehicles.

I really dig those vents in the side of the hood. And I've seen lots of PT's

Quick quiz: What does PT stand for?

And yes I know the answer 8)

Wowzers! How'd I miss this thread? Congratulations on getting an awesome new ride, James. It suits you perfectly. That red is just... whew... gorgeous!

They say people and their pets look alike, but I've never seen a car look like its owner before. 8O :D That car personifies you to the T (the PT, to be exact... yes, I just said that.... :P :l )

Have you named her yet? You better.

Love the pics. You're so cute. :)
