Ed Noonchester 1982

I was browsing these pictures from the 1982 San Diego Comic Con when I saw a familiar name:

Just thought I'd share. :) There are some other cool photos of a lot of artists and comic industry people who are long gone, and a few early 80's cosplayers here and there.

That's pretty neat. :)

Boy...that was a long time ago. 8O I didn't know what Robotech or conventions were and I only collected US coins, US stamps and new comic books at the time. That was a couple years before I even started collecting silver age comic books.

I was completely clueless as to anything regarding hand produced collectibles and artwork back then. :sweatdrop

So how did collectors get their hands on anime cels in 1982?

I assume at comic book/science-fiction conventions and through the mail (with descriptions and occasional photographs)?

I know there were cel dealers mostly selling american stuff at that time. I'm sure some Anime stuff was there but I was not interested then in cels.
I do know when the 1st Akira manga's were reprinted here they were giving away cels from it with each purchase.

I wasn't alive back then. :sweatdrop

:P Sorry. I just had to say it.

From what I hear, anime cel collecting started out with descriptions over the phone. 8O ArtToons still publishs a "catalog" that you can send away for.
