A comedy of errors

Post by Deadly Whispers »

Just sharing, in case anybody wonders what the heck is up with me lately.

Tonight, a drunk driver smacked her car into mine. She decided that since she couldn't see anybody turning on the turn arrow, that she would just barrel through the intersection. Fortunately, me and Magician are fine.

She's in jail. Her insurance has lapsed.

My car is sitting, undriveable, in a tow lot. I've had it one year and ten days. I loved that car. And I've got four years of loan payments left.

Apparently, USAA decided to cancel my automobile insurance policy back in March with NO NOTICE and NO REASON. I was unable to provide proof of insurance and have been issued a court date.

I have no way to get to work tomorrow morning. I also have no Paid Time Off left after the trip to Japan and the flu that I'm still fighting. I ALSO, when the Voot's harddrive died, lost the ability to telecommute.

I have to be out of my apartment by November 30th, and because of the flu and massive overtime at work, I haven't done much by way of packing. And now I can't even transport what I DO have packed.

Somebody, please. Shoot me.

Oh my goodness! Thank goodness you and Magician were not seriously injured or worse in that accident. :? I'm sorry to hear about your situation. I pray that things will get better for you very soon.

I'm glad you ok and not hurt!

I thought USAA sends out bills every month and every six month statements and new insurance cards. It's not the same for you? That's how it's been for us for many years.
That's also a good way to keep track of having insurance.

I hope all works out!

No way! Sorry to hear that, DW, you really don't deserve any of that [and I thought just having flu was bad enough].

You can ignore the PM I sent you 20mins ago with regard to the account setup because it can wait, I didn't know about your current situation.

With all these negative things that have happened to you recently you're due for some amazing good luck!
Out of the gloom a voice said unto me;
"Smile and be happy, things could be worse".
So I smiled and was happy
and behold;
things did get worse...

Normally, that is true! And this is where the comedy started. :x

Last December, I moved out of my house and rented an apartment closer to work because of a project that had me keeping bizarre hours for several months. Because of this, USAA got all in a snit and declared me and M divorced, and I had to create a whole new policy (in which the rates went way up because I'm under 30). They told us that a married couple cannot reside at two different addresses, and therefore we must no longer be married.

I dealt with this until about March, when I got a very nice letter and packet from USAA about my change in marital status, and how it must affect my life, and how I needed to think about more insurance. Me and M called and raised bloody hell.

Bottom line: We got them to merge the policies again. At least, that's how it was supposed to be. Then it got turned around and I kept my own auto policy - got a paper draft of the new rates and everything - and I was told that they were going to take off all I'd paid on the old rates retroactively and apply that money to my new policy, which would pay it off. So, I wasn't to expect any bills. But then, somehow, somewhere, someone at USAA decided that the ninja car wasn't going to be on anybody's insurance policy, and me and M simply never noticed this because, hey - the car HAS to be insured!!

Kafka, eat your heart out.

Oh my, I'm glad that you are okay from the accident. As for your insurance troubles, have you seen an attorney or any kind of legal counsel? It's USAA a military insurance? I'm not all that familiar with them. I hope a boat load of good things happen after this. You definitely deserve it!

OMG DW, I see your trouble there. I never knew that they do that with when you live in different places. Especially military, we (husband and me) are a lot of times not living together, but yeah we have both the same home addy. It makes no sense that they give you so much trouble just because you moved to another place due to work. That's ridicules since you are married. I would call USAA and talk to the manager (unless you already did) and all and since you going to court I would somehow try to get USAA involved. Did you save anything from that time period back then? Like letters and all? That might helps! I hope that everything clears up in a positive way for you and that you get through this without any problems!
I'm just glad that you ok and nothing more serious happened to you two. *hugs*
