Quickie question re: web site hosts

Post by Wolfette »

Hello!

Many moons since I've posted, or been involved in the cel community... real lifes been a downer for quite some time. :P

Anyway .. I'm looking for a free web host, one with no popups and preferably no banners *and* allows sales. I've got a rubberslug site, very sadly out of date .. but last I knew (granted, 5+ years ago..) they do not allow sales except in their market. If that's changed, please let me know - it would be great to use them. ;)

Thanks for any help! :)

Sheri / Wolfette (or S.Wolfie for those who might remember me) :D

Sorry to be off-topic, but I noticed your signature banner and I have to say that I just finished and enjoyed Prison Break on Netflix a week or 2 ago. Alex was a cool character, but I'm guessing you like him far more than I do and for different reasons.

Hehe, no prob about being off topic. Yeah .. Alex and T-Bag were my two fav characters on Prison Break .. and complete opposites of each other. 8O Alex had the whole good guy thing and T-Bag was the bad boy who you're ashamed of liking. O.o Although I don't think I could have liked the T-Bag character as much with any actor other than Robert Knepper. Great series though, glad to see another fan of it! :)

Wow, wolfie, it's been awhile! :D

Not sure about free websites out there these days, especially free ones that offer no pop-up ads and such... but if you were willing to pay for a site, I'd recommend iPower. I've had my site hosted through them since, gosh, 2003, I think, and have been relatively happy with their service. It's relatively a cheap site, but when you compare it to free web hosts...ehhhh. I think I pay around $100 a month, renewed once every year.

As for back in the day (not sure if they're still in business now or not), I used to host my site through geocities. I think I recall yahoo buying this out many years ago... but like with everything, I could be wrong. ^^;;;

If all else fails, maybe do a Google search for "free webhost" or something like that and see what you get. You might find something good that none of us even know about yet! xD

Yep, about 5 years if I'm counting correctly. Been through hell and am slowly trying to drag myself out. :P

Out of work for a while until I get my real estate license so not really an option unfortunately. :/ Ouch, $100 a month though? heh, I've been out of work for quite a while so that just sounds crazy expensive. I've been forced to live frugally. ;)

Yeah I remember geocities .. they have (or had) such horrid data restrictions though. O.o With a graphics heavy site I remember how annoyed I'd get when trying to view peoples sales pages and the "user has exceeded data allowance for the day" messages. ;)

Yeah I've done a bit of looking - there's a few out there but I havent signed up for anything yet. Was hoping someone might have some feedback on who they use to help narrow it down.

Do people still use eBay for selling and have much success? I'd rather not have the fees associated with it, but if people still do buy and sell off it, it might be an option.

Well, I've finally located a web host that I think will work out ok. :P I hope so at least! 8O

I've got just the bare bones up now, and am working on scanning my cels. I should have the first round of scans up either tomorrow or Monday. For now, it just links back to my rubberslug site. hehe ^^

Anyway, here's the link: http://saiyanwolf.freeoda.com/index.htm - once I get some new scans up I'll post in the appropriate section.

Thanks for the suggestions ^-^
