Post-Op Report: Good News

By Dr's orders I'm given limited "90-degree" time during the day to allow my incision (and the repair work in my nethers) to heal. So it will be a week more before I can be really active again on Beta. But for my friends and supporters who sent thoughts and prayers, I felt I should say that the surgery went well, and I am recovering quietly at home, though uncomfortably attached to a bag that collects my pee. Whether it was "successful" depends partly on the pathologist's report on the tumor and the lymph nodes excised during the procedure, and partly on the results of follow-up tests to be carried out on a monthly basis starting next month.

But the surgeon said that the organ appeared to be normal in size and shape, with no visible or palpable signs of spread to adjacent areas. That, at least, rules out the worst prognoses and hopefully gives me at least the 5-10 years' grace (maybe more) that the operation promises.

I'm still weakened and muzzy, but growing a little stronger day by day with no serious complications. Because of restrictions, I may not check in every day, but I wanted to give a quick wave of the hand and thanks to my friends who gave me encouragement during this week of crisis.

I hope you feel better soon, Sensei. No worries about holding down the fort - I'm sure we can keep whatever troublemakers we have at bay. :hammer

..hm...but maybe it might be good to have a couple around just to generate conversation? /hmm

Take care, Sensei and I hope you feel better soon!

Good to know you're getting stronger day by day without any complication sensei. Hopefully the surgery was successful as you had hoped and will generate the positive results you expected.

That is great news Sensei! Continue to feel better! These first few weeks of drugged up muzziness can be fun, and then really boring and trying!

Try not to go crazy, and get lots of rest, in the meantime...

Pathology report came down today. The results were "negative," which is medical bafflespeak for "good news." The tumor was entirely enclosed inside the organ, and examination of the lymph nodes adjacent to it showed no cancer. That's not a "clean bill of health," as there will be a series of blood tests over the next five years that will monitor hormone levels. But it does rule out the worst prognoses and indicates that I'll get several years, maybe more, of smooth sailing.

I'm still on dr's orders to limit Internetting to about 45 minutes a stint, so it will be a while before I can return to activity here. But I really appreciate all the happy thoughts and bananas!

See you soon! :kiss
