Sensei's 5th RS Anniversary
Today marks the fifth anniversary of the start of my Rubberslug gallery. It’s been fun, and I’ve met many interesting, artistically inclined friends as a result of this gallery. Yes, there have been frustrations, but many more peak moments of joy. And in an academic world where books typically are published in runs of 500 rather than 5000, it still bemuses me that the hit count of this “private” project is now counting up toward 40K.
I wish I could mark it with a splashy update, but as it happens I’m in the middle of a total household move, with everything slowly getting sorted and boxed up. As part of the upcoming move, nearly my whole collection has already departed to a temporary controlled-environment shelter out of the hurly-burly, with the exception of a few “crown jewels” and oversized items that I want to move myself in the car. Updates will need to wait until I’m resettled and have access to a scanner and a high-speed connection (hopefully in a month or so).
However, I’ve begun a celebration of sorts, using my gallery’s home page to feature cels and sketches that marked important moments in the life of my collection. On these pages, I’ve expanded the descriptions to look back and reminisce a little about how I got these items and why they are important to me.
Those of you who read my blog know about this new feature and have probably seen most of the featured items. For the rest, so far I’ve revisited:
my first cel,
my first genga,
my second cel, (I think second cels are as revealing or more than first cels)
and now, the first cel uploaded to my RS gallery, exactly five years ago this morning.
So while there’s nothing new yet to ogle, stop by anyhow and help celebrate five years of sharing and learning from other collectors.

Wow 5 years! COngratulations! Really and I thought a year felt long! You are timeless my friend.
I totally agree with what you said about first and second cel purchases.
And I like that you are featuring them and giving us a look at the stages of your collecting since I believe they are helpful to others as well. Thanks also for your insight to my blog in RS the other day. And I hope you get more cels in the future!
