Sensei's Halloween and 40.1(k) Cel-ebriation

Post by sensei »

Thanks to a long commute from Cephiro to Arl and back, two trips out of the country, and two difficult 12-day work weeks recently (academic stuff, plus administration, plus paper grading), I haven't been very active lately. But things fell together well enough this week that I could host a spooky little gallery party in honor of the season and to mark passing 40,000 hits earlier this week. (Thanks to Eternity of Pain for putting me over!) Since the hits have gone up somewhat since then, I'm actually calling it a 40.1K event. (My collection may end up being something of a retirement account, actually.)

Anyhow, to start with the scary items, I added two of the nicest CCS cels I've seen for sale recently, both from Anime Asylum's recent update:

Sakura Confronting The Erase Card, one of her most terrifying challenges in the first story arc, and

A great A1 cel of her antagonist in the First Movie, a beautifully blue-toned "Vampire Princess" Madoushi.

(I call her that because the approach to the lighting and the eerie luminous quality of the eyes seems to echo VPM, though Madoushi, being a water-magic sorceress, has icy blue eyes rather than Miyu's warm amber.)

Also, a very scary Saiyuki genga of a partly-demented Son Goku

(Kittens, can you read the irate note in red marker on the top? I get the impression that the sakkan didn't much like this genga. A pity: it's one of the best I've seen from this series.)

Not very spooky (unless you're a magical girl cursed to transform into a flying pig) but extremely impressive are two new Tonde Buurin henshin cels, one showing Karin just beginning to transform into Buurin,

and the other showing her as Karin/Buurin in full exuberant henshin mode.

(I thought about submitting this to the Anime Beta contest in the "Hentai" category, but I thought that was just a little cheeky. Anyhow, it's an eyeful.)

Just for fun, there's also a pretty TB cel set with original bg showing Karin with her mother and little brother, a nice housewarming present from my friend Vapalla.

I have quite a backlog of sketches to scan, including CCS, Hyper Police, Saiyuki, and (naturally) PPGZ, with another bundle almost ready to arrive from SMJ. It may take to Thanksgiving to get these all up, but I'll try to put up the highlights as I can.

For the moment, enjoy!

Your wish is being granted, RoboFlonne. I got a new series up in time for Halloween. I don't know what's got the GirlZ so terrorized, but it must be something appropriately boogerish. They run so fast that they don't remember that in their magic identities they can fly!

I have an academic essay on the significance of women holding pink staffs with wings, as explained by medieval witchhunters' manuals, that's well worth reading. Freud only said out loud what lots of people knew already.

Thank you! I guess I like my new Madoushi because at first I was disappointed to get it bec. it was an alt. for a wishlist that I really wanted. But then when I got it, I saw it was the A1 and the more I stared at it (with the black bg in my Itoya behind it) the more it stared back.

From what I've learned so far, the top has to do with "highlights" (that's what the katakana part says) and the bottom says "Sorry!" Kittens? (I think the second kanji on the top is "genga.")

Thanks all for visiting. It's a 40.1K update for real now!

When I first read the title of your post I though, "Holy! Sensei acquired a $40K cel!" LOL!

Anyway, congrats on the hits and great additions as usual. :D

Hehehe... Nice title. I thought you had spent your 401K on this update! :D
As usual I really like your choices. You have such a good eye. Congrats on those transformation cels and of course Sakura looks great.
