May Madness Concludes with KKJ Kiss Scene

Post by sensei »

While I have a few stray PPGZ sketches ready to upload, I've managed to get the last of my "May Madness" update up, finishing with some of the nicest Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne sketches I've seen up for grabs lately. Those who came earlier to admire the "Big Kiss" genga won't want to miss the series of gengas that lead up to it, in which Sinbad takes Jeanne's hand and draws her into his embrace. The more so, since, as the studio realized the scene, a bank of random pedestrians keeps walking in front of the two, mostly blocking our view of the steamy embrace. However, you can now see the action without interference.

I'd also be very interested in any Betarians' theories about what is going on in this Tonde Buurin cel, where Karin seems to be saying "Bikini" to her thoroughly befuddled family.

There are other nice additions to CCS and Tree of Palme, not to mention a lovely Winged Silky from the concluding episode of Tenshi ni Narumon.

:flower :yay :hippy JANNU ROOROCK!!! :hippy :yay :flower

Great sketches ^_^
I like this one:

(as well as the whole cut)
But I just love the faces.
He seems sort of drunk, and she is just surprised...The flow of her curls is also cute. :)

Thanks, RF. The oversized Silky is really even more impressive in person. Hitomi Kato (character designer for Tennimon, as well as for Tonde Buurin and part of Revolutionary Girl Utena) really was inspired by this amazing outfit.

I've never been less than astonished by Toei's sketch sets. All that work for images that would never or only partially be seen by anyone. (But, I almost hear the animators whispering, "Osamu Tezuka-sama will see...")

That one is my absolute favorite. They really get a kind of Rudolph Valentino look into Sinbad's face (appropriately so, as Valentino was famous as "The Sheik" who abducts and finally falls in love with a European lady). And she's surprised, but also ... well ... curious.

Well worth watching, even if the plot teeters uncomfortably on the side of unintentional farce. Arina Tanemura has Maron figure out that Chiaki and Sinbad are the same by the end of the second manga volume, which makes sense. When Toei decided to order 44 episodes, they put all the filler episodes in at the beginning and get to Tanemura's actual story along about Ep. 32. (This might have been because the manga was still appearing and they didn't want to spoil the ending -- or write their own, which happened with "Chobits.") Thankfully, the series doesn't take itself too seriously, so that the genuinely dark moments, as with Tennimon, strike home with more impact because of the silly lead-up.

Thanks, funshine. As an academic, I feel obligated to display rather than just show, and so I'm always thinking about what random viewers need to know other than "I bought it I got it." I learn something with every purchase, and so I can't help wanting to share that.

And thanks everyone for stopping by.
