Hmmm...it keeps saying the the server is busy whenever I go on the site.

It must be that everyone who planned on updating is updating now....

"The plane! The plane!"

I'm just as surprised as you are. :) We were waiting for power to be restored to our service provider and apparently it's all good now. Thanks all for your patience.

One point I'd like to make is that Houston and especially Galveston are pretty torn up. I lived there from '82 until the end of high school and storms never were really bad, but this one was pretty bad. I've heard firsthand about trees being thrown against houses and people losing stuff in areas which I've never seen flood or take wind damage. Lots of history got washed into the gulf, burned down, or simply blew away. Everyone here knows someone who has lost everything.

On the international front, let's not forget -- as many McNews agencies like CNN tend to -- that Ike blew past Haiti and other places that really didn't need another pass of 130 MPH winds to level anything taller than a one-story building. It's a raw deal.

Do me a huge, huge favor and if you are in the near future considering tossing us a few bucks, give it to an organization like the Red Cross or someone else you trust that's helping with the recovery effort. Let me know if you've done this and I'd be *more* than happy to credit you with a Rubberslug sponsorship.

For our part, any donations received for the next month will go to the Red Cross, similar to what we did after Katrina. Spare a thought for the good people of south Texas. In return, they will give you tasty BBQ, charismatic but underachieving sports teams, and a fresh supply of videos of girls going wild every spring break. What can I say? Texas is the gift that gives back. Think of it as an investment.

Okay, public service message over. Thanks again for all your well wishes. Resume happy talk! :)
