Not cels for me but rather Juuni Kokki. I think of it literally every waking moment I am awake. At breakfast, lunch and dinner, don't watch TV but rather eat in silence thinking about my sketches. When i am behind the computer I check my gallery at least 10 times a day re-looking at all my sketches. Always on the hunt for more. The only time i am not thinking of Juuni Kokki (most of the time) is when i am sleeping because its out of my control.

Indeed I truly love Juuni Kokki. 8)

I work for a bank and did a product research not too long ago. There is a bank in NY name starts with C has an art collection loan program. They make loans to collectors to purchase valuable art pieces.

I wonder if they would fund anime cel :stupid:

I am sure your empty pocket is a happy pocket.

Cheers :cheers

More often than I shd. When I'm at home or at work, sometimes I would browse the cel-related webpages. When I'm on the bus or the train, I think abt cels (if I'm not reading)...sometimes in the middle of a boring conversation too :D

If I'm feeling down, thinking abt my collection can be quite comforting 8)

I'm actually switching obsessions, so cels are taking up less of my time and energy than dolls. I'm finding myself thinking about the dolls all the time now.

Sad, but true. :D
I'm finding I have a crapload more fun with dolls than with cels.
I mean, I have some fun with the cels, and many of my cels and sketches are still awesome eyecandy that keeps me purring, but you can do some pretty wacked out things with the dolls. :dgrin

I don't think about cels as often as I used to. I used to think about cels so often at work that I would often take down notes. I kept a list of the last cels I bought in my wallet with the amount I paid listed next to each. That was for me to keep in mind what I bought and how much I spent recently.

Last week I found my old "cel thesis" I wrote while at work. Its purpose was to prevent me from spending so much:

(In part) This paper is about eight years old:

Cel Qualities:

1. Mood - Is a mood imparted?
2. Action - What are they doing?
3. Dimension - Is there depth to it? Is there texture?
4. Moment - Is it from a defining moment (esp. moments when all action stops such as staring scenes)?

Some things I wanted to think about:

1. Do not convince yourself to buy a cel.
2. Just because a cel is the best one posted doesn't mean it's worth buying.
3. If I pass on a cel the first time, I probably shouldn't buy it.
4. Two mediocre cels do not equal one good cel. Save money for good cels.
5. Find reasons NOT to buy a cel instead of thinking of reasons why you should.
6. Don't buy a mediocre cel just because there are few good cels from the series.

It's funny to think back on all the stuff that went on back then. When I was at home I used to look up cel dealer websites every twenty to thirty minutes. I used to stay up til 3:15AM for Anime Taro updates. Lots of craziness. :^^:

Eight years later I'm thinking along different lines.

I'm thinking about the zero to four Yahoo Japan auctions I MIGHT bid on. I'm thinking about the artwork I already own. I'm thinking about how much "that cel" I'm looking at will fade in ten years. I'm thinking about reasons I SHOULDN'T buy stuff. I'm thinking about what sellers scans I should post since I'm too lazy to scan. :P

Here is the truth

Kidding aside, what Keropi said is probabaly all of us feel and do in part or whole.

Many times, I placed outrageous bids to win cels just because I don't want to loose. Many times, I think about the money I spend on cels are enough down payment for a condo or a brand new car. Many times, I feel so selfish that I spend all these money on a personal hobby and not invest in family future. The worst of all is after I get the cel, I move on pursung the next cel. The ones I have, though I treasure them dearly, are in the closet most of the time.

However, what wake me up at nights even more are the cels I missed. I constantly remember the Evangelion hanken cel I didn't win on YJ in 2003 because somebody told me that might be a fake (a reputable cel dealer won the cel at the end). I still feel the pain that I was too lazy to get up at 5 AM to check auction ending and lost a beautiful Sol Bianca hanken cel last month. I hate myself for didn’t purchase all the Captain Tyler hanken cels from Mandarake before they closed the LA store..............

I am struggling between the passion of wanting to own these beautiful images and the guilty feeling of spending too much fortune.

Not looking for an answer, just want to share my feeling after reading Keropi’s comment.

Alex

PS: Yeah, it is a major pain to remove an AIC hanken cel from sealed frame and scan the big thing in pieces. I use dealer scan as much as I can get. This is why I only post 1/3 of my hanken cels because they are impossible to scan.

Lately I've been thinking about how much money I've spent on cels, how much nicer my bank account would look atm instead of how bad it looks... but even in thinking about all of that I still manage to put in an order for more... only b/c I know I'm going to get a good deal of $$$ back on a tax return. I do think about cels a lot when watching anime's and such... wondering how much shot x or y would go for... out of being curious. Mostly in series I don't collect b/c they are really expensive for me to get nice shots... when i watch the series I do collect from I just sit there and wonder if/when/where that certain shot will show up, and if I'll have the funds for it. :P

That's my mandate for cel collecting...unless I see something realli cheap but that seldom happens nowadays. Or else, you would find youself selling away the mediocre cels rather quickly to make up for the $$ you need for another nice cel.

The other criteria for buying cels is that upon first glance, it must make my heart skip a beat. Unfortunately, my heart has been jumping recently on the average of once every 5 - 7 days X|

The drawback abt cel collecting is that when I watch anime, I see everything in terms of cel...like how many nice shots there are and where in the world are they etc. I sometimes fantasize how nice if I had the key to the studio cel storage... :D

The above happens to me too. Kicking myself for cels that I lost.

I was supposed to buy a motorcycle this spring. HAHAHAHAHA. I bought enough in cels over the past few months to pay for that bike now if I wanted it. @_@ ah well. maybe later this year. lol

Cels are much better then a motorcycle... especially if there's a drunk idiot in the suv in front of you.

If you get one, please be careful!

:vict

p.s. Alex please let me know if you get that loan for art collection. Somehow I bet that's only for old paintings by italians. So much discrimination!

From the moment I get up to the moment I go to bed, I think about cels. I check Keep Track first thing in the morning, and a few other sites. I always check the "For Sale" threads and auction sites more than a few times a day. When I feel down, I also take a random cel book and leaf through it. That is very relaxing. :)

I don't dream about cels, or anime for that matter. :?

I think about it every time. The thing is that i always think there will be a cel updated on a site and i will miss it. So whenever i have any time i just check different sites. Its crazy. I even relate cels to other things sometimes lol

I am not allowed to think of cels during the following hours of the day...

9-10:30AM and 3-EOD

In order to continue with the hobby, I must not lose my job. :P
