I have been on Rubberslug for 4 years now. Soon after I started collecting someone told me about the site. I am not html or any-other-kind-of-code-savy so RS was the perfect place to be. Also, I tried to find other galleries to see other collections and they were hard to find. I would google titles or look on anime web ringsand find half the sites were abandoned. With rubberslug, I can look up characters and shows and see what other people on the site have. I can look for sequence mates to my cels and names to characters from obscure anime. I think that even if the sites are set up with the same layout, people seem to still be able to individualize their site and some look pretty amazing. I don't know if I would have my gallery online without it.

My gallery is not on Rubberslug, but only because I created it before Rubberslug existed. I like Rubberslug a lot, though, and have often toyed with the idea of moving there.

A while back I actually resized all my images with the goal of starting a rubberslug gallery, but going through the time and effort of uploading all the images is holding me back for now. That, and some amount of nostalgia for the time I started collecting and there were no rubberslug galleries.

If all I had were cels, I probably would still be on Rubberslug due to the sheer hassle of porting everything over. However, since I wanted to put up my other collections as well, it pushed me to get my own site/domain.

Even though I've had a RS account since almost its inception, I only uploaded one particular series to my RS gallery two years ago. At first, I just wanted to see how flexible and convenient a slug gallery would be. There was thought to uploading my whole gallery, but I think I like the way it's set up now where I can concentrate on a series I really love in RS.

I love maintaining my own website for the same reason everyone else keeps their non-RS site (i.e. creativity and flexibility). But I also like many aspects of RS (i.e. ease of use, update news, etc.). I'm still using the free space I get from my ISP and maybe in the future I might make the small leap to my own domain.

I had my own gallery for years before Rubberslug existed. At first, the lack of customization on Rubberslug was a major reason why I and some others chose not to use it. These days there are a lot more options, but I have SO many cels that there's no way I could find the time to upload them all to Rubberslug. In fact, it's much much faster to move my entire site to a different server than to upload cels to Rubberslug. With FTP I can dump the entire directory contents, images, thumbnails, and html, onto the server in a matter of minutes. With Rubberslug I'd have to basically retype pages and pages of notes about each cel, upload the cels a few at a time, and redo the thumbnails. It's not worth the effort. I created a Rubberslug gallery and put up a few cels from each of my favorite series to get people's attention, and then I linked back to my main gallery.

Hector the Collector loved these things with all his soul,
Loved them more than shining diamonds, loved them more than glistenin' gold.
Hector called to all the people,"Come and share my treasure trunk!"
And all the silly sightless people came and looked...and called it junk.

Oh my gosh, I remember Crosswinds. I use to host my site on there too! Until, like you said, the pop ups and the charging etc. etc.

I started my site back when Rubberslug didn't exist also, and it was too much hassel to move everything. Like what jcaliff said, options were very limited back when it first started. I liked having the freedom to making my site look whatever I feel like and not have it limited to one format where it looks like 100 other people's site. (sort of like the suburbs, my house looks like my neighbor's house...) Although recently I did toy with the idea of maybe uploading a few of my favorites to rubberslug just to have a site there and the link it back to my main site. That's been bouncing around in my head for months now, not sure when it'll materialize, especially if I have to resize any of my images. :x

So in short, my reason for not having a RS site would be laziness. :P

This is very smart. Compare to your indepdent site, does Rubberslug site get better search result from Google and other engines? Can you type in your own meta data in Rubberslug site?

Your things do show up on Google from Rubberslug. The more uncommon the anime title, the more likely you are to find them through Google searches. Your stuff is easier to find if you leave that "?Create your own free rubberslug cel gallery" showing in your gallery (because the word "cel" is on your page).

I wish the name "SoftCel" never existed because that word has messed up my search results time and time again. :(

Frankly I'm on Rubberslug because I wouldn't have the slightest idea of how to start a real website. Unless I did it on Geocities or something, and then you have limited choices and it would never look as neat. :D

Actually, searching around on RS was one of the things that got me into cel collecting. I did a bit of research before purchasing my first cel, and RS showed up in a google search.

Had my own site....Went to RS...Now I have a private site.

RS made it easy to categorize things. But, yes, like the others, took away the creative aspect. I love being able to manipulate my codes and build a fun site.

I still have an active gallery on RS, but that's mainly for the chat in order to stay connected with friends. I'll put a "cel/sketch" of the month up to keep from getting the Account deactivated....But that's it.

Is your web site mspoe.net? I went there and don't know how to pass that Nerv logo X|

Evangelion is my favorite anime, I would love you see what you have behind that Nerv logo.

Thanks.
