Is there anybody not in bubberslug.com?

Post by Alex »

I am surprised by the number of cel gallery in bubberslug.com.

What are your reason(s) to host under bubberslug.com; and for those of you (and I) who don't, what is your preference creating your web site?

My reason is simple. When I started in 2001, I didn't really know the options and maybe bubberslug did not exist back then, so I did the only way I knew how registered an URL, found an ISP and created a simple site using FrontPage. Over the years, I kind of enjoy the flexibility of making whatever I want the way I wanted (limited to my technical skills and creatability). So my web site is like me, heavy in substance and short on good look.

Most everyone is on rubberslug...

I don't see why not use rubberslug. It looks powerful! I also like Kym-chan's website he's not on rubberslug!

I'm not... I'm trying to use other methods... But I'm so slow posting that It'll take me a decade... /hmm /hmm :vict

We're glad you're posting here!

I don't know html, but I wanted to include comments along with my cels. I asked here once how people include comments with their cels and got no replies. So I started up a Rubberslug gallery. That was the only way I was going to be able to do it. :)

I have my Tripod gallery up because I have a lot more images there and because I can still do a few simple things there that I can't do at Rubberslug.

Make sense

Understand. It is rich in function so you can focus on the contents and I guess it does not cost much. Having common terminology is good too.

Thanks for the reply.

I make my living as webmaster for the local University so I have no excuses not to build my own site. I get free hosting as a perk. I do tend to be a bit lazy when it comes to my own projects though. Basic tools, I prefer TextPad, WildEdit, and Photoshop. I can burn through large updates fast if need be

The building part can be a lot of fun.

I don't know how to coding neither. I use FrontPage so all I need to do is type it up like Word and let the program to code.

It's kind of fun and not too difficult for the simple stuff I do. I don't like the costs to host independent site though. It is expensive to keep up.

I started off hosting mine in the webspace that my ISP gave me. As my collections (cels, figures, sketches) grew, I soon found that I had ran out of webspace. This led to me having to scale down the images and make design trade-off's in order to keep from running out of disk space.

At that point, I decided to move to rubberslug. I didn't like being constrained by the features/design based on their setup, but at least I could put up decent sized scans.

Finally, last year, I decided to buy my own domain and pay for hosting. It's really cheap these days, so it's well worth it. I went through godaddy.com and use their cheap hosting plan. I think the domain, private registration and the hosting ends up costing me less than $5 a month.

I use it b/c i'm lazy. I have my own domain, but its been waiting months for me to even design a mainpage for it. I know HTML and I like playing in dreamweaver - but I am insanely lazy, and I like Rubberslug. I don't understand why you've called it Bubberslug though...

I don't know how to make a website, and I don't care to take the time to research to pay for one (and then learn to make it).

I like the features on RS, and they make it easy on those of us who want to share our collections.

Maintaining a non-rs site was becoming far more time consuming and a general hassle to keep it the way I wanted it, especially as my number of series, and cels, grew. So I moved over to rs the other year.

Plus, I get more exposure over at rs. :P

Who or what is bubberslug? :|

Now, if you're asking about rubberslug, I use it because I honestly don't have time to maintain yet another website. Why bother when I can use their site for free? Fellow collectors can see my updates and the features of the site help me connect with friends (forum, blogs and the chatroom).

:crackup I was waiting to post in this thread to see how long it took someone to notice (or at least bring it up) that this is indeed "rubberslug" and not "bubberslug."

That aside, the reason I use rubberslug is simply I wanted a site (nothing to amazing) so others can view my art in a fairly easy to find and well made environment. After all, the reason I upload my sketches is so others know at least what is out there verses simply hiding it away as my private joy in some box. I do know a bit of HTML so I could wipe something up regarding a site (I even have a domain and server all set) its just the benifits I simply dont see. What makes rubberslug so great is its search function. Which allows you and other the convenience of locating fellow galleries who collect the same series very easily. If everyone went off and made a private gallery then finding them would be harder (I know some make private website just for this reason thats there choice). All I know for certain is that if several people never used rubberslug chances are I wouldn't come across there collections as I simply would not have looked for it.
